What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

If you're doing a wider axle go outboard for sure.

 

I'm going 66 inches WMS to WMS.

Outboard will give me some more stability, but this thing is pretty damn stable right now, set up with inboard shocks the way I have them.

I'm curious what length people are running with outside the frame @Robmonster117 @cbechtold you guys just went through this, what rear shock length did you guys get to?

 

I vote for outboard with 14” shocks

 

I went with 12" shock without going through the bed to retain "decent, but not enough" uptravel, but I'm also using a stock geometry leaf pack. With Chevy 63s, you should be easily able to use 14" shocks and maximize the travel numbers without going too far negative with the leaf pack or going too far into the bed.

Let me know if I need to cut some shock tabs for ya.

I cut these for a local shop along with various other parts -

 

With my ride height + added room of the body lift (to move the upper shock mounts up an inch) + if I move the lower shock mounts down about a half inch, I could almost (probably) fit 12 inch in board where I have them.

12 inch inside the frame, where I have them, would (probably) end up giving me more wheel travel than 14 inch outside the frame.

 

Oh... I'm gunna be calling on you for some stuff. I promise. That truss is gunna be a LONG ASSED weld.

I’d take the added stability of outboard over a little extra wheel travel any day. But that’s my personal opinion and my hatred for feeling tippy on steep off chamber wheeling haha

 

I had 12" 2.0 on my last truck running the archive hangers. You could go even longer if you wanted to do some cutting.
They felt super stable and flexed awesome with some 600# over 3" lift alcans.

depends on what kind of wheel travel you want more of.

Inboard will let you flex more, out board will let you run a longer shock so you can get more vertical overall drop(assuming your leaf springs allow it).

Obviously, this needs to be catered to your specific driving style. If you like to go go fast fast fast. Then outboard all day. If you're more into crawling, do the inboard. Which ever you pick, will be a bit compromised on the other. But won't suck either way with proper valving.

Once i get mine back under the knife, my plan is outboard short body 12's. Unless I do custom leaf springs then I'll do 14s.

Archive hangers on a 1st gen? I only see them listed for 05+.

 

Eric stopped making them because the demand wasn't high enough.
He has the design done and it's been tested so if asked nicely he might make some more

 

I have a set of alcans 3” lift for +600lbs over stock. With about 35k miles on them. I replaced them because I needed more weight capacity, anyway if you’re interested shoot me a PM.
