Good morning fellow Porchatonians!! It's a sh*t show of weather here in Northeast PA. Gusty winds, snow, sleet, rain, grauple.....repeat. The ground and driveway are coated with some form of white precipitation mix but only an inch or so. It's supposed to warm up, though, so it should melt.

    Stay safe out there!!

Wow! Bad storm last night. Two tornado TD's confirmed, too close for comfort. Blowdowns everywhere, winds still up, generator ran all night. My utility power sounder evidently quit working, but 0400, noticed neighbors had every light they own on, so I switched back to utility power, shut down the genny, then got an hours' sleep. Whew.
We're on the list for a new whole house automatic. Can't come soon enough. Older we get, harder it is to deal with this chit.
UPS battery drained completely during the storm, but slowly returned to full charge on generator power. Looks like everything is ok with it. Did some research, draining it won't hurt it, actually helps index it. The battery pack is fairly easy to replace, but the UPS is new, so I'm glad it's ok.

Came home last night on our mtn road and a washout dropped a power pole and the line was across the road. We were gone all day, neighbors said power was out for a while.
Tornado watch was in effect all day.

Same here in NE Connecticut. We had planned on spending the weekend down your way at Fiddle Lake in Ararat visiting my college friend. Weather changed those plans. Both my Dad and Mom's family are from Lackawanna County (Simpson and White's Crossing) so I always enjoy the opportunity to visit my roots.

Good morning. It sort of drizzled and rained all day and into the night yesterday. Today is sunny with high winds expected after 10am. I have a few indoor projects for today.

Well you guys back east seem like you're getting pounded. Big storms this year have passed both north and south of us. The most snow we've had at any one event has been about 8/9 inches and although the ground has been covered continuously for weeks at a time the average is probably fairly bare ground as often as snow cover. Go up the mountains and at some point the snow starts to accumulate until there is six or more feet... which is going to make for what used to be a pretty average spring and water load. It's probably been 20 years since we've had an average snow accumulation. The Great Salt Lake, Lake Meade and Powell, might actually fill noticeably, and the local reservoirs might be full if the water authorities let them fill instead of sending every drop to southern California and Las Vegas like they usually do. So we've been able to get in some good walks about half as often as we do in the summer and cabin fever is being relieved to some degree, and we are feeling lucky to be where we are instead of being where people have to own and maintain snow blowers. So take care guys... spring is coming.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/weatherpeople. We had some snow during the late afternoon, then it got crazy overnight with wind and rain. My wife heard a tree come down somewhere; first thing I did when we got up was a perimeter check. Wasn't us, whew. Generator never came on either, which is somewhat amazing given how our power went out during the past 3 sunny-but-windy days last month. I'll take it...

I think I'm finally finished with tax foo! This year was a real chore because of estate convolutions + retiring + moving accounts from 401(k) to IRA + a bunch of other stuff. I've never had to deal with so many tax-related events in one year before, and hopefully never will again. :annoyed:

We're meeting my sister and BIL at a Benihana's today for dinner. I've never been to one, should be a treat. I'm ready for one!

After reading the weather reports on here, I am glad I am not home and in warmer climate:amen:

Hi Andy, so far it sounds like everyone is doing okay except for bad weather. How's things in the 50 thread. I haven't being bouncing around much so I haven't been keeping up much. Have a good one and stop in more often. :fistbump:

A friend in California has his house covered in a lot of snow, his carport collapsed, and his road cannot be plowed.

I remember a few blizzards like that from many years ago. Front end loaders were brought in to clear the road.

This California winter has been epic. Snow pack in the Sierras currently ranges from 144% to 220%. Several places like Dodge Ridge ski resort have reported over 42’ (42 feet) of snow fall this winter and several more feet on the way this weekend. Rain fall varies but ranges 200+ % in some areas. It’s a fabulous year for snow skiing but these old bones wouldnt survive skiing down the slopes again, not even a bunny hill. The lakes and reservoirs will be full this year. The problem is that this spring they may have to release large amounts of water from the reservoirs to make room for the incoming snow melt and that has the potential to cause flooding. But for now let it snow, it’s a beautiful thing.
