I'll let the future answer your question. Wait and see the Rivian van won't be as reliable as you think. What ever I say you'll just argue, like some one who can't understand normal thinking.

 

I haven’t argued at all actually, I’ve just asked you to support your opinion with some sort of basis in fact. I will freely acknowledge that the Rivian van is entirely unproven compared to a normal ICE delivery van but I was hoping you’d provide some kind of meaningful discussion on the topic.

 

The spare tire under the bed will be a definite downside to a slide in camper. You’ll end up either needing a built-in tire mount on the camper or adding a hitch carrier for added weight and aero drag penalty.

 

I've been seeing a guy up at the ski hill with an R1 almost every weekend. This is a 2 hour drive from Seattle often in snowy conditions and freezing cold. Never seen him near a charging hookup, those are across the highway.

He's tailgating, cooking food and blasting music. Just another day at the ski resort..

 

Seems like removing that cover and using it for something would make more sense than leaving the spare in there. If you did that, do you think you could stand a spare vertically in that same space up against the side of the bed?

 

It’s too shallow to stand a spare vertically. The cover for it is also nearly half the bed and hinges up from the midpoint of the bed, not really something that can be used if there’s a camper with a floor in the bed. Maybe build a minimalist camper with a full width lifting floor as well.

If the cover was removed maybe they could build a smaller trap door into the floor of the slide in to access that area.

 

To be fair the guy could be stopping at the last DC fast charger along the way to get a good base charge for the weekend. It’s something I would do, especially given the added energy used in cold weather.

 

It’s amazing how good the Rivian looks with the oval headlights just barely visible. The camper company didn’t want them ruining its image.

 

The only reason I can think for that design decision is just that it is so unique and identifiably Rivian. Probably because everyone else decided it looked ridiculous and avoided it. Terrible choice.

It’s funny how for the past 100 years other manufacturers have used non “stadium” headlights that function perfectly fine and don’t look idiotic.

 

Sounds fancy but they aren’t that special. I’d say they are better than my 3rd gen Tacoma LEDs and about on par with the 5th gen Ram LEDs. I think my Audi LEDs were better and they definitely didn’t look like this.

 

Audi seems to be in another world when it comes to headlight tech.

Not to mention when the batteries cycle out they will be parked in a field and left to rot. Instead of dropping a re manufactured engine in it for 3k and hitting the road again.

Batteries are replaceable and even when an EV battery pack is no longer serviceable for use in a vehicle it is still quite usable for home solar backup, grid power backup and many other uses. That’s completely ignoring the fact that a new engine for a Ram Promaster costs a fair amount more than $3000 to purchase and install.

 

Why wouldn’t Amazon just sell them and let someone else deal with the problem when the time comes, like the USPS with the Jeep DJ?

 

Batteries are being recycled for second use in other ways and end of life they are recycled and the lithium and other minerals are reclaimed. They are not 'left to rot'.

 

Why do you guys care so much about what type of vehicle delivers your packages?
