I have the exact mower you have, and I have a very low clearance place I store my machine in. I have to push the mower in this place if I want it in there plus I have to pull/drag it out. It is impossible to move this thing by hand unless I release the valves, and I don't think the mower will move under it's own power with the valves released as there is no drive. I really think you did no wrong and may just be confused BTW I love my mower!

Scag builds their residential class mowers with the same quality components they put on the commercial grades. Scag has a 5 year warranty on the residential class mowers -at least I think they still do.

Not true - Scags and Kubotas are commercial quality throughout their lines! Personally I can't see paying extra for the mower and later the parts just because it is painted green and yellow -My opinion -sorry if it offends anyone edit -Toro also makes some fine equipment as well!

So for future reference... On the Scag machines with the lever style Dump Valves, you must pull the levers out AND slide them inward toward the centerline of the mower. This fully releases the valves and the mower rolls freely AND will not move forward or reverse under its own power.

Ok is what I am going to pick up tomorrow. Its not a large ZT but one of my coworkers had a similar one from a different brand that he really liked, its only 2 inches wide then my timemaster but the engine is 3 times as large and the top speed is 1 mph faster, so I figure I can power through taller grass without having to slow down and its small enough to fit inside gates to do a few backyards. Biggest benefit is that it will fit in my current junky trailer so that in future I could mow other properties which would not be a option with a 48+ ZT.
Should anyone have any particular thoughts or experience one this model please let me know.

Those were the 1st gens that are belt driven, I've worked the hydrolic version that Exmark makes. I was amazed at how much cutting you can get done with a walk behind.

I don't have any experience with the belt driven models.

The learning curve for these is much more steep than a sit on ZT.

The price is right, so you should be able to pocket some side money.

    Did you get it?
If not, there's that appeared in Houma. I think Dixon is related to Husqvarna somehow.

I did get the John Deere walk behind mower and used it on the empty lot with 3 or 4 weeks of overgrown vegetation. It definatly has the power but the cut quality wasn't good enough for residential lawns, I'm going to pull the blades next week and sharpen them, I hope that will make the cut nice enough to use on residential lawns that need to look pretty.

It could be that cutting a lawn with a normal one or two week growth will produce better results too.

Ok pics of mower and pic of lot I cut, you can see where its not cutting smoothly. Yes I assume with vegetation(I dont think it can be called grass) only 2 weeks high it should work better. While I have only ever used residential self propelled lawn mowers the john deere is going to take a bit to learn to "drive" it well, I feel like a ZT would be more instinctual driving

That's some pretty sorry cut results.

Are you sure all the blades are present? A spindle froze up? The blade bolt is loose?

It looks like only 1 blade is cutting.

I haven't had a chance to jack up the front and check the blades yet, it cut fine when I tested it but that was normal grass. Its been a busy week and will be a busy weekend.

Ok the blades are off, both blades spin fine and the 24mm head bolts were very tight, had to get the m18 high torque impact to get them off. The mower has the mulching plate installed and these are the mulching blades, there isn't much clippings stuck to the deck but damn there was a lot just sitting on top of the blades, both blades are very dull, I'll sharpen them at work and see how much that helps, if it doesn't I'll order new non mulching blades and take off the mulching plate.

To bad you didn't take a pic of the field before you cut it for a better perspective.

I must not have noted this was a mulching deck.

That's gonna give you a poor cut on overgrown grass.

If it'll matter that much I will just take the mulching plate off and order normal blades.
Admittedly I do always side shot the lot with my timemaster.

Thread title says water heaters, there water heater talk going on? Didn't see any over the last few pages.

Debating getting one of the new heat pump water heaters and moving my existing one to be an unpowered buffer tank for my geo.

Any complaints from those with the heat pump water heaters? $300/mo bill and 30% of that is heating water, seems like a good move unless I'm missing something

Did the seller give the chute for it? If not, maybe you could message him and see if he has it..
