Hello, I have not been around in a while, names Alan.

I own a 2006 DoubleCab SR5 with a six foot bed. It has about 185K miles on it.
The Check Engine light came one about 8 months ago and it simply will not go out.

I have changed the O2 sensors "three times" in the past 8 months.
Not sure of the codes but I am "pretty sure" its not the senors.

Each time the sensors were changed the Check Engine light would actually go out.
And each time the sensors were changed the light would come back on about 30 to 40 minutes latter.

After the second change the check engine light actually went out (for about 30 minutes while driving)a few days after the change was made but it came back on a the next time I started the engine.

I have not checked the gas mileage but it is lower than it was before the light came on.
The muffler needed to be changed so after the third sensor change I changed the muffler.

None of the sensor changes did any good.

I am beginning to think the catalytic converters may need to be changed.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

    Thanks

Simple. Get the codes read. Parts houses do it free, or buy your own.

Then Google the numbers for definitions, and repost in the 2nd gen forum with your results for tips

If its p0420, or 0430 it's cats all day, and no o2 sensor will fix it.

    You need the codes.

Please note that the 0420 and 0430 codes are not necessarily cats''. I had a similar issue and realized it was my gas cap. The fact that both codes are thrown indicates a common problem to both engine banks. I changed my o2 sensors, replace gaskets and check exhaust leaks, cleaned maf, throttle body etc. which were to no avail. I "SWITCHED MY GAS CAP AND IT SOLVED EVERYTHING". I am currently getting a green check mark on my OBD2 reader with no engine check lights and I did not even clear the codes from the obd2 reader before or reset my 05 Tacoma ECU. I hope this help. I got my share of help over the last six months from these forums. Just trying to give back.
