Last check up before MOAB! Tire rotation, drive shaft lube, general tighten and under carriage check. Have to say, despite my popooing it, that gas tank armor is in my future-got some big scratches in there somewhere last summer. Also scratched (in a nice spiral) my Tom Woods. Huh. The viper cut has really grown on me. Got some flack elsewhere on TW for how aggressive I went, but it looks "right" IMO. Yes I was wearing shorts...

I can't imagine why anyone would give you flack for that cut. I think anything else wouldn't look as good. Point 'em out to us, we'll take of 'em.:smack:

Me as well. I keep looking at how clean those lines are. Shows a lot of patience and a steady hand.

I think the cuts look good. If others don't like it; fuck 'em.

I *think* I'm in for the April 14-16- Wyalusing/T.W.A.T/Potosi trip... at least part of it, if not the entire thing.

So for those who were on the recent TWAT winter excursion, at some point in the terror of driving twisty hilly roads that had been preened by a zamboni we passed through a commercial syrup sugar bush. That was what those tubes winding from tree to tree were. Today I went up in the Penokee's and worked with my good friend on his sugar bush. I have been involved for many years now, but three years ago we plumbed a small section of his sugar bush. Went from 300 taps to 175 with nearly the same production AND way less work. Except for today. Today was beautiful, but sucked. There is 4-5 feet of snow on the ground and in many places it had buried the tubing so that it had to be dug out. All on snow shoes mind you. Then we went through and tapped all the trees... and they started running! Hoping for a good year.

My neighbor's brother tapped my neighbor's trees two weeks ago. The bags have been steadily filling since then. 175 taps must produce a pretty fair amount of sap.
