Had to remove the cover for the first time to load a large object in the truck. I was pleasantly surprised how simple the process was. I like the fact that there is a small bolt for extra security. The best part was the ease of reinstallation. It is a very heavy, well-fitting, cap.

Been saying it several times about the weight, seems no one believes me. They are pretty porky for their size vs others.

I have the OEM and like it. It was on the truck when I purchased it. No issues but I have not had a reason to remove it yet.

Do these OE covers leak at all?

I've removed mine in the past for hauling some much bulkier items. I had ordered my truck with one, was surprised at first how heavy it was vs the one on a neighbors chevy
As far as any leak's, I'll get a few drops on the side rails when we get these high wind driven rain storms, otherwise nothing. For the most part, its dry as could be.

I have had some small leaks, but I haven't tweaked the seals yet. Nothing to worry about as far as I'm concerned but I generally never have much in the bed to worry about. There are some adjustments you can make to limit water. It's a good tough cover but peeps on this site have other good ones they like. Several threads on them.

Mine might leak a very slight bit. I have had a bunch of trifolds both rigid plastic & vinyl & none was totally waterproof. The one on my Tacoma is by far the most secure that I have ever had. Probably the heaviest as well. I have no complaints.

My only regret about my truck is that it did not come with the OEM hard cover.
    They are very nice.

Bull bar with lights, Wheels on stock tires, window vents.
They are great but repeated on of on off will take it's toll on them, the little end caps on the latched and fold points fall off, and it seems to leak a little more now.

I've only had my Tacoma since October and have already needed to take the OEM Tonneau Cover off a half-dozen times. After the first time needing to scrounge through the toolbox for a 12mm socket, I spent $25 on Amazon and bought the following which I keep in the door pocket of the rear passenger door.

Very slight leaks but nothing severe. It’s a nice cover but doesn’t hold up to the elements well. All faded to a green color, paint is coming off center hinge and all the rubber seals are dry cracked after 3 1/2 years.
There are better options for the money. 112B7D01-D4F9-4955-9F8C-36D717642083.jpg

They are water resistance, not waterproof, so yes a little water does get in as a result of a heavy rainfall.
I keep a water-tight roll around tool box in bed for anything I want to keep perfectly dry.

I have the OEM Tri-fold and did not modify it to improve water resistance. With that said, it is probably 95% water tight and a few mods would likely take it to 99%. Very happy with it.

The often overlooked OEM soft trifold is the bees knees. Bone dry inside all the time and from what you all describe, even easier to remove/install than the hard cover.

The OEM cover is a beast of a tonneau, as leak proof as any other tonneau out there, and is a snap to remove. I've never understood why so many here bash it?

My 23 OR came with the soft cover, and I was sure that I didn't want a tonneau cover....until I saw how easy it is to either fold it and still have on the truck, or remove it all together. My last tonneau was on my 93 Sierra....and what a pain that thing was. Things sure have changed for the better!

It's definitely not waterproof, but mine has done a good job of keeping the bed pretty dry. Adding the OEM bed mat also helped, as any water that gets in tends to go into the channels under the bed mat. That said, the bed itself is not sealed, so even with a fully waterproof tonneau cover, water can still get into the bed.

mine came with the soft OEM cover - so I had no choice - ended up keeping it and it's surprisingly good. The leaks are very minor. This is it after 2.5 years:

Was that 90s tonneau the kind with snap buttons every few inches like a boat cover? They look snazzy (my brother has one on his 92 Toyota pickup), but man, they are impractical!
