Got a piece of trim you need to reuse but it has trim nails in it? Pull them through the wood rather than pounding them out.

It's like it was never nail.

Some of the top of the line best brand consoles will pull good money - to the right person - eventually...

That said usually you can't give them away it seems, while the good ones were made with top quality craftsmanship they are just so darn big.

Too bad in my house they used 10D & 12D finish nails in everything, so pulling them out just trashes the wood, even from, behind. Tried to salvage the wood from the section of top cabinets I took outta my kitchen. Nope, right to the burn pile!

I have used a dremel cutting wheel to reclaim trim with those finish nails before. It went pretty quick. Profit margins were tight back then.

not at all. it's never been more than warm to the touch. i can't find it in the manual, but i thought it specified 6" above, and 3" clearance on either side for airflow. i'm currently at 0" on the right side, and 2" on top with trim at the front/back with a 1/8" gap. so a little supplemental flow should be plenty to flow through the 2" gap.

as with any thermal solution, i'm going to run it this way for a while, monitor temps, and see if it's good enough or needs alteration.

a pair of rescued Jensen G610B's. they're installed in custom-built boxes that are some of the nicest custom cabinets i've ever seen. when i first saw them i assumed the cabinets were store bought for the 50's era, but a closer look shows the top edge router detail and 1/4-round over the grille fabric is non-standard for store-bought gear. jensen also never sold that model installed in a cabinet, they were a speaker/crossover-only purchase with the buyer expected to build the cabinets.

i was volunteering at a thrift store the day they came in, they were going to junk them "because no one wants large heavy speakers." i laughed, told them i'd buy every large speaker they ever got in. they never took me seriously though. i held onto them simply for the novelty and for the way they sounded for about 10 years before the internet caught up and info was available documenting how interesting they are. 70-ish years old is starting to show their age though, the crossovers and tweeters are getting fiddly, but they still sound amazing.

yeah, that's exactly where most are at. the last console that popped up at a thrift store had a $400 price tag on it. for a chipped/scratched GE with wood-textured plastic front grille. i'm interested in something for $100, but plastic 'wood' isn't going to cut it for me!

Beauty cabinets. A question, and I don't want to seem like I'm crappin on the project, just genuine curiosity. The upper doors, why have them in different sizes? I just thought having all 4 doors the same height would have kept a cleaner line horizontally.

I've heard mixed reviews about those higher end appliances. Looks very nice though.

    Hope it stays intact ...

My buddy is building million dollar homes in TX with 100%. PEX.

I would not build another house with copper supplies , PEX is all we use . Plumb a dedicated line to each fixture in a manifold system if you are that concerned about leaks

also try air sealing , insulating and rodent proofing , that seems to solve most issues

I think these bolts should keep the house from leaping off the foundation lol
