Like Ken said, it's been an epic winter here. It's nothing compared to the rest of the contry but it even snowed here in Los Angeles. I live in the foothills about 12 miles from downtown at 1500ft and we had an hour of snow. 3rd time in 30 years and the most by far. We also decided to get a new roof, paint, solar and new gutters all on the wettest year.
    Perfect timing.

Good morning. Off to the gym then we have some garden fence maintenance to do. Cooking up a pork shoulder roast today. Last month I butchered a pork shoulder into steaks and cut out the money muscle as a roast. It was in the fridge with a dry brine all last night. Should be tasty for dinner tonight.

Susan: Actually, I had a decent, but tiring, Sunday. Did a lot of garden fence work getting ready for this spring. Installed two 4X4 posts for the gate to rest on and started repairs on the fence. You actually step up into the garden, two steps, and the wife wanted a post to hold on to so she could have better balance. I'm sure I will be using it too. ;) Also burned off all the dead tree branches that fell this winter, and there were quite a few. I was tired last night.

Good morning. Today is shopping day and a haircut. Off to the gym first.

Good morning. I got up at Pee:30 this morning and looked out the window at the streetlight. We have about 5 new inches of snow and still coming down. Morning walk is cancelled. Going back to bed then firing up the snow blower later. Maybe some pancakes and eggs after. Have a great day.

:annoyed:Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Yesterday was "Revenge of the Machines". Po Larry the pool cleaner lost the reverser yesterday, was replaced with the spare, that was bad, so I bypassed it, and now he goes around getting stuck. Still trying to get the storm out of the pool. Washer started spilling water OUTSIDE the tray (again). Finally got the wife to settle on one, then it's "unavailable" once in the cart. Another hour looking, and she's going to "have someone come repair it". Fine. This morning, "repair will take to long and cost too much", so I managed to get a different one on order. One of the plastic mower wing nuts on the handle broke when I was doing the belt change (twice), so I had Amazon replacements sent. Bolts are bigger, and will require two more for "alternate repair". (I had a crap system I cobbled after the original broke in a month). More handle bolts coming today. See what I can work on today that isn't breaking!

If I was to say what I really think I fear the ban hammer would come crashing down. Let’s just say for some the drought will never be over. Dirty cars and dead lawns have become a normal thing.
Californias population has more than doubled over the last 50 years but no additional reservoirs or water storage facilities have been built during that time. 50% of our rainfall runs out to the Pacific Ocean. A large part of the snow pack will run out to the ocean because we don’t capture it in storage facilities/reservoirs. End of rant.

I keep hoping (probably in vain) that Mead and Powell water levels will rise... but the way human beings tend to think is that they should use, use, use in times of plenty instead of storing the abundance for future needs. Around here the local reservoirs are never filled because the water has been promised downstream and goes there first. Of course that also means the water is used as fast as they get it so their reservoirs never fill and there is none left for us. It seems wrong to me that downstream should be prioritized before upstream catchment. Pretty much the opposite of how my logic dictates.

    Morning all:

:( Kurt, I think we all have days like that, the fewer the better!

We don't have the problem with water like CA, BUT, they proposed a dam on the Delaware River (Tocks Island) that would destroy miles of pristine river, and there was another one proposed across a valley on a stream that runs through town, both were supposed to control flooding of the Delaware river and through controlled release push back the brackish water when the river gets low. Glad both of them went the way of the dodo, for now! I had previously mentioned NYC wanting to buy a dam just North of us and use it to supply water to the city, if they need water that bad, they can build their own dams on streams in the Adirondacks or Catskills if needed.

Just like here. N. California ships water to S. California and of course we ship a lot straight to the Pacific Ocean. The western US is mostly desert , but for water we would be desert.

:amen: And in the verse of adding a whole lot more.
The funny part I was told is its residents are not washing cars at home, but they can wash cars at the car wash (?) That logic of saving water really vague to my unwise thinking. :pout:

I read this somewhere, years before in our own droughts. If you look it up, you will find tons of proof offered by the car wash bizness, but strangely, no homeowners seem to have studied it..... FWIW, not from a car wash....AND California

I moved away from California in 1979, much to the chagrin of my family still there. In 1980 my aunt asked me why I'd moved and I said "water". In 2020 I visited her and she said, "Do you remember telling me why you moved? At the time I laughed, now I see you were correct." :)

Alright! Greenhouse stripped and cleaned out. Leftover plants and herbs have a temporary home. Have to clean and rebuilt watering system yet.
