ya Tesla uses a Brembo caliper rebranded for tesla. It's a part as long as you can add a place to mount it then you can use it. A lot of the major players have electronic e brakes and in today's cars it is the common option. I can post it if I can track it down but I found some threads on ih8mud where folks had retrofitted the Tesla e brake caliper to their old broncos. Electronic calipers basically just need a switch to engage and disengage or some type of solenoid that disengages them when the vehicle is put into drive or something similar. There was chatter about going down that road. In theory, if we could put a descent-size e-caliper on the massive rotors I don't see how that would not work.

I always did get it to work but never stopped the truck from fully stopping or going forward and eventually nothing. Since the lower adjuster is not self-adjusting my other assumption is it was there but as soon as it wears the pad down the past adjustment no longer applies and would require it to be adjusted again.

Disc brakes on a Tacoma and e-caliper if it works out would be the combo (but more stuff electronically to worry about)

A quick Google search and me thinks the Wilwood electric parking brake kit would be the way to go. It's complete with harness and things. Very expensive though.

My biggest worry would be having the system engage when it's not supposed to then not being able to release it. I've written firmware for a few embedded devices but nothing that would be life threatening if it failed.

I def curious about that too but most cars now are using electronic e brakes so there will be some good solutions out there but whether not its easy for us to add it to it or not. If the new Tacoma has Disc brakes i would bet it will be an electronic e brake.

My wife's 2008 Passat had electronic e-brake. And so does her Lexus. The inability for e-brake fun aside, I like them for various reasons. We've never had a single issue with either. The Passat had 200k miles on it and the Lexus is at 32k. Only issue I had was doing the pads on the Passat. You were supposed to retract the pads with their software (which I had) and could never get it to retract enough to get the caliper back onto the rotor with the new pads. I had a friend that was a VW mechanic and he was telling me they had people coming in all the time to replace the calipers because a DIYer or independent shop was trying to wind the piston in using the traditional method. I tried this the first time and was lucky enough to not mess up the calipers. At $300 a piece, it could've been an expensive lesson.

Doesn't mean squat for the Wilwood version, but I like stories.
