my son bought a 2001 tacoma that had been wrecked . i have been helping him to get it on the road again .we have a power steering line that is leaking. Does this year tacoma have and seals or o rings on the metal lines because the line that is leaking acts like it is not tight but it is as tight as i can get it .

Is it leaking from the pump/reservoir line connection? Or further down?

It has two metal lines with both ends of the lines attached to the rack, one end of one of the lines is pouring out fluid when we start it up . thanks

I recently replaced my lines with rock auto parts. Metal washers on the upper end (HP line). Screw in fittings at the bottom. Rubber lines with clamps (low pressure line I think on top and bottom ends). No o-rings if I recall. I want to say you need a 17 mm flare nut wrench on the lower connections at the steering rack. Can be a PITA if the nuts on the fittins are rounded/rusted. By all means get a flare nut wrench if you need to undo those. One (the HP line I think) is a crimped line on a screw in fitting. The other (low pressure I think) is a screw in "union" fitting with a simple clamp holding the rubber hose on to it.

Note: Mine is a 2.7. Don't know what you have or if its a different configuration.

How did you bleed the system?

If you put the key in the ignition to keep the wheel from locking, but don't turn it on, does the wheel feel the same as when the truck is running, or is it harder to turn if the engine isn't running?
