I think the manual 4.0’s chug along pretty good. Minus 1st gear though. My truck isn’t loaded up with heavy ass armour or big tires……yet.
Coming from the Honda world of smooth high revving engines, the 4.0 is nothing like that at all. It feels like a old V8 without the torque

lol you want a 4 cyl to go as fast as a 6 or 8 cyl. Do you want a small pizza to feed you and three friends? An acre of land to feed your whole town? Are you towing a three axle racing trailer too?

@Taco 422 bro it’s a simple fucking question. Some people can’t afford to buy a new truck. I was just looking for a cheap temporary solution so :luvya:

My turn. Cheap, fast, reliable pick 2. Can’t have all three. Cheap and fast = weight reductions. Remove all the cladding and seats you’re not using. Leave your spare tire at home (you might need AAA from your parents or girlfriend). Next would be tires/rims. Get lighter street tires and some used lighter rims from CL. Some cosmetically challenged rims can be had for cheap. Anything in the engine bay outside of maintenance (plugs/oil change/clean stock air filter) won’t be cheap.

Of course it is possible. It's just not worth the money that you would have to spend. If it makes you feel better, the V-6 is nothing to write home about, and just about everybody takes me off the line, and I'm OK with that.

But take comfort in knowing that you have an engine that can go 300- 400 K miles.

I’ve come to a point in my life and age…my Tacoma is slow with all the armour and 35’s. Why push and strain the engine/drivetrain, to save a few mins to my destination lol!

    I bought a 4cyl Tacoma, wasn't expecting a Ford Lightning.

But to answer your question as stated (cheap), nada chance.:hattip:

All these comments and only two people gave the correct answer - TURBO.

Seriously, the Toyota 4 banger is great on boost. When I had my '01 5 lug I found a used KO turbo for around $1500. Sooooo worth it and lots of room to upgrade over time. I ran it on stock injectors and stock tune at 5 psi and it was still awesome. It won't break any records but it is the power improvement you're looking for an LOTS OF FUN!

Can't help with making the engine faster, but we can certainly help make it burn gas faster. That's the same thing right?
