First step is to see what code(s) you have in the PCM and ABS module, next step would be to check the transmission fluid level and condition.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have a few codes p2197,p2241,co200,co210,co215,c1238,c1241. I believe my transmission is sealed?

    none yet
    welcome

sealed is kind of relative, the is a drain hole and level when hot hole on the bottom and a fill hole on the side and drain and fill fluid swap is recommended maintenance
search for Tacoma drain and fill

I'll have to look up those codes tonight, transmission isn't sealed per se it just doesn't have a dipstick and has a special procedure for checking fluid level.

See the thread below just note the specified check temperature was changed from 115-130F to 97-115F.

You have a number of problems.
They may or may not be associate with each other.
I haven’t had time to read through the diagnostic.
But a wiring issue, or abs module malfunction may be at play here?
That’s a lot of speed sensors codes all at once.

Do you think the abs module could cause the transmission to not switch gears. I have no problem in 1st ,2nd and 3rd

Yeah, it’s called fail safe mode.
    AKA: Limp mode.

Depending on the code(s) the truck tries to “save itself” from further damage that may occur.

I would have to go back and see if any of those codes will cause the truck to enter fail safe mode.

I don't believe any of those codes would cause a shifting issue, assuming your truck does not have VSC the ABS codes would not have any effect on driveability.
AFR sensor codes possibly could if there is an actual lean condition but the circuit code appearing with the lean code suggests a failed sensor or problem in the circuit.

Does it attempt to shift and run away or does it just stay in 3rd and not attempt a shift?

Did these codes all pop up at the same time?

0051 and 0333 are indeed on the fail safe list.
I’ve never had mine go into limp mode.
But I do know it limits RPM and throttle response.
Pretty sure it cuts all timing as well?

I’m still looking, but I think I’ve heard people claim it does something to the shift sequence as well on the Automatic.

All it says for P0333 is it retards ignition timing.

If all these codes appeared at almost the same time I'm thinking rodents...:bananadead:

Yeah. I was leaning that way too.
Even more so now that there’s a knock sensor code.
I have no idea why, but they like to eat the wires to those?
Must “taste” better than the rest?

I think it's because the engine valley is a perfect nesting area for mice, it's warm and concealed.

    Maybe?
    I’ve been lucky.

They either don’t like my engine bay, (it’s dirty) or I don’t park my truck long enough?
I do t even want to think about it.

I drove over a drive way with Tyvek nails scattered all over it today.
I don’t need any thing else to worry about.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings, from just looking at the tires, I don’t see nails sticking out.
I was disgusted with it, so I don’t “look hard”. One of those days.
