Have the option to pick up a 1996 Frame for $1k, But I don't need it. Should I do it anyways?

Frame is for sale in my area off a 1996. I don't need a frame but I feel like it might be good to have around or even resell. It's a 1996 though, and aren't the 1995.5-1997 frames slightly different then 1998-2004?

Frame is apparently clean and sandblasted.

Nah! Why buy something you don't need and can't use?

    $1k?

    Damn.

I have two friends that can't even give their clean, CA frames away. I've declined them as well and it'd be free.

I've jokes around about cutting it up in pieces to make it cheap to ship to the midwest

Way too much for a frame.

Someone smart needs to send all the rusty ones out west. We need the parts, have the frames.

I like this idea Cut in half and ship to me secured to a custom pallet . To what ever size it needed to be to ship common carrier .

That would be a life saver interesting quite serious. Free frame just shipping .

I have heard that can`t give away before till someone shows interest then $$$$.

the issue is a frame thats been cut will never pass state inspections (if you have them). and will rust horribly where they're welded back together. no matter what you do for prep. i've seen a few trucks that were patched with other frames and welded together. and all of them seemed well done. but less than a couple years later were borderline unsafe to drive

if california wasn't such a hellscape for freelance truckers, it would be far easier to get them out here.. but that states a mess for anyone that would be willing to do it. so they wont... i've tried

Even with constant Attention the frames still failed where the were spliced ?

Yet I have stretched many Truck frames from day cabs to over the Road tractors with a nice house.

Cut frames to access pumps on Firetrucks .

All 100% Legal or maybe that has now changed. I can see it now your $300,000 fire truck is now scrap good for parts.

im sure it can be done in a way that wont rot. but these boxed frames seem to be bulk of the issue. they always rot from the inside out where spliced in.. now if you were to cut the crossmembers out and reweld them like factory i bet it would be fine.

i've seen some really interesting repairs working at the dealer. a few spliced together. but the safe-t-caps seem to be the better option over welding on frame from another frame. either one it s only buying these people 2-3 years more it seems.

Exactly, why buy a frame that you don't need keeping it from someone who may need it?
I do know some just like having junk laying around.

Or, one could simply pick it up with a trailer.

I bring this up on most threads where people are looking for frames. They all complain that shipping is too much. Plenty of people giving away frames on this site.

Shoot and that one guy wanted to use the frame off his Toyota pickup for his Tacoma…

    Seriously.

And exhausting only one option is far from saying "I tried"

Two frames near me, one within 10 minutes from my house, and no need for them. They're there, people just need to get up off their ass if they really want one.

I really wish I could. But with the truck that’s well over 1 grand in fuel.

And I have no need for it yet.. I will. But not yet..

If I found something to go to California to pay the fuel out with the trailer bring as many as I could carry close to legal .

I’d grab more than one if I made the trip. That’s a given
