Tacoma 02' Fog Lights

For Tacoma 02', where is the wiring for the fuse for fogs in the fuse box? Would a signal switch with fog switch work on 02' Tacoma? It fits for 95'-04'. The signal lights are on front bumper and dim lights are on the left and right of headlights. There's power going thru the fuse for fog in the fuse box. How do I rewire the signals and where are the fog wires at? Why does it have a fog fuse if there isn't any fog lights? Thank you. Let me know if you know how to install fogs and where the 15A fuse for fogs connect to.

 

1st gen tacomas never came with fog lights. The bumper lights are strictly turn signals.

There are threads where people modify their turn signals with switchbacks or extra bulbs, etc to make them “look” like fog lights. Keep in mind fog lights have a specific beam pattern that the stock housings will not do.

 

What about aftermarket housing for signals? Will it melt for HIDs 3000k? What's the HID bulb size for turn signal lights? Is there a different housing for the HID bulbs? 4157NA are the bulbs for the signals. Are there any HID bulbs that fit?

 

You don't ever want to put a HID or any high intensity bulb in a housing that it is not designed for. You will get extreme light scatter and blind oncoming drivers. This is technically illegal. If you want fog lights, I suggest getting complete aftermarket fog housings. These are obviously not 1st gen specific, but you could come up with some ways to mount these on the front.

 

Also, where did you get that photo of the fuse box with the fog fuse labeled? Is that actually from a 1st gen Tacoma? Are you sure it's not from a 4runner? The fog light switch stalk can be installed in a Tacoma (I did this), but you'll have to do the wiring part.

 

Straight from the factory, 02-04 Tacoma (possibly on 00-01 as well).



While it does appear on the fuse box lid and there is an actual slot for it inside the fuse box with terminals to accept a fuse, there is no fuse installed. Looking over the EWD for the fuse box just to see what if anything it is wired to. Funky.

 

So while it's on the Fuse Box lid and there is a spot with connectors to accept a fuse, it's just not there. You can always pull the fuse box (pain in the azz) and look on the underside to see if anything is actually wired to that spot. The EWD just shows it as an unused spot.

 

From those photos you can see one leg of the fuse slot has a connector, but not the other. It's probably powered, but then it doesn't go anywhere.

 

It was just the lighting/cam angle when I snapped that pic. Both terminals are present and a fuse can be plugged into that spot. Is it actually wired to anything? Have no idea.

 

Did you wire the fog switch to be functional? If so, any photos, instructions, or pointers?

 

I don’t have any photos, but there’s no connection at the pin where the stalk plugs in. You just need to wire it from there. I just wired that to trigger a relay. I never actually connected it to anything, I will whenever I actually get some fog lights haha.

 

There is so much wrong with this I’m not sure where to start. Signals should not be HID level of output, you’d blind everyone else on the road. A 4157 is about 400 lumens vs an HID of 3,200 lumens. Extremely unsafe for everyone on the road. On top of that HIDs cannot flash, they require warm-up. An HID bulb will be physically impossible to turn off and on in rapid succession like an incandescent bulb used for signaling. And if all that wasn’t enough, one of the ways to cause HID component failure is restarting it immediately after turning it off, which is exactly what a signal does. Definitely hard pass across the board.
