I totally agree with that; I'm just saying that if you work with 100 people, 45 of them don't give a shit. Attitudes have changed...in my opinoin.

 

In addition to my '21 Taco, I also have a 2008 Scion XD with 165,000 miles that WAS built in Japan. Although it's been reliable and the AC still works like new, it has had its problems over the years that has NOTHING to do where it was assembled. This includes:
-ABS system harness and sensors
-Exhaust
-Brakes
It's a Corolla at heart and very reliable, but I've probably spent the same amount on repairs over the years that I bought the car for ($15,700) in 2008.

 

well that is absolutely true. I’m the beginning when we were building corollas we used to win lots of awards for that car. Each year quality slipped. And the hiring process is not the same either. My hiring process took 6 months with multiple simulated work and interviews. Now they pretty much hire anybody on the spot.

 

I bought a 2021 Sport not knowing where it was being delivered from...I expect good quality from Toyota regardless of plant assembly.

Would I have preferred American Made...sure.

To date...and it's been almost 2 years, I've had no issues at 18K+ miles.

 

If thats the case I would hate to see what would happen if the new generation Tundra was built in Mexico, I' not sure it could get much worse than the current display of workmanship...lol

 

We are talking long term here. 2 years is still a baby. 10+ years is what matters. Hell if you want a good quality truck for short term the Nissan Frontier won the JD power award. Tacoma was 3rd but this looks back only 3 years of ownership. Go to 10+ years and I’m sure Tacoma will beat the Nissan there

 

there is a reason why it isn’t built in Mexico.
But also the new tundra is nothing like the old v8 and because it’s all new it has already plenty of problems

 

This is my first New Toyota.

I had a 2003 Honda Pilot EX I bought when stationed at Hickam AFB, Hawaii in 2002.

That baby lasted me 212K miles before some lady drove right into me in the suicide lane. (Oct 3, 2018)

My generalization of Japanese built vehicles is that they are quality builds.

EDIT: I suspect the QA people from Toyota would send teams to other locations for Quality Assurance.

I can report back in another 8 years on how great my Sport is...I'll stick around...Lord Willing.

 

Absent the engineering problems and electrical problems, its the " I don't care about my job assembly and paint problems" that I was laughing at, if they are that bad in Texas, I can't imagine how bad they will be in Mexico. The Tacoma doesn't stand a chance I guess, since its a baby tundra with the same systems.

It anecdotal I know, but I have had 2 Tacomas, one built in Texas and one built in Mexico, the one built in Mexico is better put together (less rattles etc) but they are a few years apart also.

I've had other trucks built in Mexico and they were fine, and trucks build in the US that were sub par. In my experience it has been a toss up between the two, in my personal experience the only vehicles that were clearly a cut above in build etc were the ones I have had that were built in Japan. Mexico/US have been about the same either way.

 

Perhaps use word assembled.
Engines, tranny's , axles and many other components are not built in Mexico.

Some people's reasonings are not based on facts, but typical, blind pre-conceptions of a "me American-you lesser being" mentality.
Do you think Toyota would allow or agree that Mexican Tacomas were of less quality because "after all, it is Mexico, not Japan, not USA...!"?
American cars (and some trucks) have been junk since the 1980's. Both in design, feel and build. That is why I've always bought and trusted Toyota.
It is not because of the American auto worker that American cars suck. It is politics, bean-counters getting in the way, lowest-bidder outsourcing, unions and costs (wages, healthcare and benefits) realities and constraints.
Toyota Mexican plants are state-of-the-art. Do some people here think the Mexican auto worker could or would not have the same or more of the pride and dedication Toyota demands, than the US auto worker when assembling Toyotas?

I had the same wrong ideas when I got my 2005 first-year 2-Gen Tacoma. I was concerned that, because it was now built in the USA, it would be of crappy American car quality. Nothing further from the truth. Best vehicle I've ever had. Toyota demands the same commitment from the Mexican auto worker. These are very proud, devoted, grateful and disciplined workers, that assemble cars with the parts sourced by Toyota or assembled elsewhere under Toyota stringent quality standards, that when something fails, they fix it quickly.
Some people have been listening to crazy, obsolete-minded Scottie Kilmer for too long...
My Guanajuato-built 2022 is top-notch Toyota quality.
