So in preparation for an upcoming fishing trip, my friend and I are trying to whip up a simple rack for loading and unloading his 12' aluminum boat into the back of my '03 Xtra Cab Tacoma. We've hauled this boat in his '98 Tacoma several times with no rack, without issues (picture of that included). We just back the truck up to the edge of the water and launch the boat easy peasy.

To protect the hull of the boat and bed of the truck, we'd like to fabricate a simple rack of sorts out of 2 x 4's and carpet that allows the boat to sit and load/unload nicely in the back of the truck. I don't see us having any problems with this, but thought I'd ask around here to see if anyone else had done anything similar, and wouldn't mind sharing pictures or sketches. If not I'll share pictures of the finished product in case anyone else wants to try something similar down the road. Cheers fellow TacomaWorld members!

Wow what is this magic contraption you speak of? And how does it's cost compare to a few 2x4's and some half-used up roll of carpet my neighbor has lying around?

Yea my buddy got it for 4k for that reason. Prior owner's dipsh*t son took it for a joyride and tipped it on its side, while trying to make an Instagram reel of him fish-tailing it down a dirt road. Mechanically perfect, just has a few cosmetic imperfections as you noticed. We swapped the bed out with one from pick and pull for $200, and it looks far better now

Tailgate off, angled v ramp from below bumper to above cab. Hand winch on top.

Though the ideal is still trailering it.

Here. Enjoy my highly technical Ms paint blueprint.

Gimme 5 dollars if you use it.
