The 1st Gen: All pro 3” lift (650 lbs coils, expedition rears with bilstiens),Timbren rear bumpstops, ubolt flip, diff drop, carrier bearing drop, 33’s on beadlocks ,ARB Bumper, winch, hand throttle, ARE canopy, roof bars, poly bushings all around minus the body mounts. The 2nd Gen: Leveling kit, roll up tonneau cover. 265/75/16’s
I pulled the EFI Relay and bench tested it. With the relay pulled, the fuel pump and injectors do not operate. With the relay installed, the fuel injectors pulse, and after a short time, the fuel pump comes on. The relay tests fine. Its getting power for some reason with the key turned to the on position without cranking.

    I’m afraid of this.

    Update:

hooked it up to the scanner this weekend, found that it’s showing 115 rpm plus or minus, the ignition timing is advancing and it is actually generating spark with the key in the on position. Still no codes. Leaning towards an ECM at this point, but I’m going to throw a few sensors at it first. Did a crank sensor this morning. It showed 0 rpm with the crank sensor connected, but not installed into its home. As soon as I installed the crank sensor, it showed 115 rpm again. I’m going to investigate this further, but I also ordered a Cam sensor that should be here tomorrow.

My landlords have a 1st gen double cab sitting in our driveway that I might try to swap the ecm with, if they’ll let me, to see if that does anything. I’m not sure what engine is in it at this point though.

Have you tried simply checking your ground wires and ensuring they are free of corrosion and have good contact?

Which ground wires are you suggesting? I have new ground battery cables and my fuse box’s are grounded properly.

Main loom ground strap on the firewall (mid-passenger side). There is usually another on the drivers side intake manifold, but it may not be there on the 03 and 04. There are some in the cab too under the kick plates.

It sounds more like an electrical gremlin than a sensor issue. So I'd just be crossing all the grounds off the list first before throwing sensors at it.

I tore into it a little bit this morning.

From what I can tell with a multimeter, I have good ground all the way to the battery from various grounding points inside of the cab.

The RPM signal has become more aggressive. It’s showing 350 RPM on my scan gauge now. This is enough that the needle on the tach actually moves up off the bottom. The rate of the injectors firing has also increased. I’m at a total loss at the moment.

I also took the ECM out and visually inspected the circuit board. Everything looked in place from what I could tell. No discoloration on any of the circuits.

    Hi Jason,
I was digging around on the internet because I am having this same problem. Were you able to find any solutions?
