    Hello,

Recently picked up a new 23’ TRD Pro - Noticed the last few trips the idle in drive while stopped ex. at red lights, or similar the idle is rough - in comparison with every other vehicle previously owned. I found a few threads with similar topics - curious if 500-600 RPM with a shudder in the steering wheel at idle is normal Ops - no other issues/CEL.
Rough = slight vibration in the floorboard/steering wheel…

    Thanks

Is it from the engine doing its cleaning of carbon? It acts like a diesel I guess when it does. In this video he mentions this.

This is exactly how mine idles, it's normal. If you raise it to 750 rpm its perfectly smooth. If I decide to tune my truck I will ask to set the target idle to 750.
    Enjoy your truck!

Was noticing my 2016 idle the other day. Almost like the engine is not even on after almost 7 years it's that smooth, honestly. Guess they improved it.

I think the lower idle is to save fuel and for emissions….That’s strictly a guess on my part. My 23 ideas around 500 but no real vibrations.

Does it happen in D or N/P as well?

When my engine idles in N, always been barely noticeable. Stock or tuned.

Been always using 91E0 or higher octane gas.

Umm nothing should vibrate when the truck is idling. This is not 1995.

The idle is smooth in Neutral, in Drive stopped at an intersection is the use case where it’s noticeable. 1,500 miles currently - the tach/rpm doesn’t reflect the slight vibration, but you can definitely feel a change in the floorboard & steering wheel similar to an old school miss. Unfamiliar with the 3.5 behavior - just to clarify I put it in Neutral & the idle is smooth - in “D” the rhythm changes significantly.

Fluid levels are fine - If this is a standard idle on a new truck, slowly losing interest in the Toyota ownership experience. It looks cool - but the engine is a C-

Video might be helpful. My 2021 has never exhibited what you describe.

my 23 has an automatic trans and to me it always seems to idle a bit high, but it is always very smooth with no vibrations.

I have noticed nothing like you describe on mine, I would call my dealership and take it by if you feel like something is wrong with the idle or something loose is causing a vibration. The only thing I notice different besides all the extras is it rides better than my SR5 and the exhaust has a growl to it when you take off. I have only had mine about 2 weeks.

Copy all - Thanks for the suggestions, I’ve discovered in the last decade dropping off a new vehicle to a dealer that’s had a “Help Wanted/Hire on the Spot” technician sign/banner the past 2yrs out front isn’t always the best option.

Service Manager Interview - “ Can you use an impact/or any mechanical inclination” no but I chew Skoal & Drink Mt Dew…

    Service Manager - “Hired”

I guess that all depends on the dealership, there are two in my area that are great , I am probably lucky in regards to that. One of them has a huge glass window and you can watch everything they do. I had a vibration on my SR5 and took it up and a mudflap had lost a couple of bolts . It absolutely drove me nuts til I got it up that day, I couldn't figure out what was going on . They found it immediately,.fixed it and I was on my way. I wish you the best on fixing the issue.

Not normal. Mine is perfectly smooth. Try a different gas... Mine is very sensitive to anything but top tier.

Had three and all were smooth runners. Your steering wheel shouldn’t be moving at all.

Be aware these trucks are generally uncivilized overall, and proud of it, and they’re a little sensitive to crappy fuel. Otherwise these are typical GR motors that will albeit make relatively unpleasant sounds while happily on their way to racking up 8 million miles.

X3 on my 2020 DCLB w/15k on it. Almost cant tell its even on at stop lights. 0 vibration, 0 shaking what so ever. That kind of thing just doesn't seem normal, especially in a brand new Taco.
