CB radio power question on 3rd gen.

I agree with the comments at the linked article. My experience doing both my own and other people's installations is that going directly to the battery is the best bet. I also did some 110 watt Motorola radio installs way back in the early 1980s.

Be sure to put the fuse as close to the battery as possible. fuse right at the back of the radio is a recipe for disaster.

Fusing the ground line is in case the negative lead on the battery comes lose. Electricity will seek ground even if it means going through your radio. The fuse on the negative lead will blow instantly if the negative lead comes off and protect your radio.

Since CB radios are low power, you don't need a lot of current to power it.

Aside from where to mount it, does a CB require a better battery and alternator?

$155 cmx760 bearcat off road series compact mobile CB radio, 40-channel operation, ultra-compact for easy mounting, large 7-color backlit LCD display on mic with built-in speaker mic, black

cmx760, I hear everyone loud and clear but when I’m calling out a radio check no one hears me. What can be the problem

 

I tapped into the hot/negative auxiliary power outlet wires in the center console. No issues.

 

How’s the leg room for the passenger do they bump into it?

 

Unless your passenger is fat, it's not an issue. My wife has no issues with her left leg being encroached upon by the CB.

I made a bracket that mounts the CB to the side of the center console. It's a pretty well designed fit, and it keeps the CB tight against the side of the center console.

 

Ok y’all I have done the most to make the

Uniden CMX760 work. And tbh it’s a big headache, bought three different antennas and it seems to only let me speak threw it without a antenna attached to my cb antenna mount. But yet no one can responds to my radio checks. I give up at this point. It’s just a nice decorative piece to my interior to just listen to truckers.

 

Did you adjust the antenna for your swr? If that's out of wack you won't transmit clearly

 

Yes I bought a firestick, and nothing worked. Just beeps allot when I talk on it.

 

As far as power goes I tapped into the cigarette lighter and all is well. I transmit and send as clear as any radio.

 

If you keyed it up without an antenna (load) you might have fried the sending portion of the radio

Sorry man, powered electronics need a load/resistance when broadcasting. To much free energy pushing through the circuits isn't good.

 

Do yourself a favor and skip CB. Just go straight to GMRS or HAM. You will thank yourself later.

 

Doesnt GMRS have a subscription base service? Also Ham needs you to pass a test and attain a license. CB's are cheap and easy and work well on the trail the few times you use them a year.

 

GMRS license is something like $25 for several years and there’s no test. I’ve had CB and GMRS. GMRS is better in every way. Reaches much further, repeater capable if there are any in your area, and there’s a lot more activity on GMRS if you just like to listen. I only heard chatter on the CB when on the highway. I pick up all sorts of people on GMRS. It’s quit entertaining sometimes.
