I have no idea who he was, just saw my door handle turning and someone throwing their weight against the door. Big bald guy with missing front teeth incoherently rambling nonsense. I started fearing that he stole the car or committed a crime and didn't want to be held responsible since it was on my property. I am trying my best to give this guy every opportunity to get it in case he is having a rough patch in life.

The VIN doesn’t match the plates. Get that thing off your property ASAP.

True were it not for the encounter.

There was a car parked on the side of the road in front of my next door neighbor's house with plates. I didn't care until a few days later I saw him and he asked me first "hey do you know whose car that is?"..so at that point I look in the window and the column is punched. At that point I made the call.

Get the car towed. Make sure your security cameras are up and running. Lock your doors.

I took Amanda to a doctor's appointment today and helped her get some shit out of a storage unit in Mount Pocono that her ex's mom defaulted on. I turned into the local country station and it looks like the radio data system is malfunctioning. That's Gretchen Wilson... :D

Anyway, I was in like 9th grade when Redneck Woman came out, and I hadn't heard it in years so this was a pleasant surprise; Amanda I were both laughing at the radio station's SNAFU...

165K! I got the head gasket and timing chain replaced at 158K, and as a result the oil had to be changed early; I initially had the dealer put in Mobil 1 10W30 full synthetic high-mileage, which I've been running since 2021. I decided to go back to 0W20 high mileage formula, which I didn't know existed at the time I started using a thicker oil; I've also experimented with 5W20 and 5W30 at various times. Anyway, I reset the oil change light before heading home for the night so it comes on at 5,000-mile intervals; I have a window because I switched to 0W20 at like 160,500 and still have a few hundred miles left. Unfortunately, I was driving and I didn't realize until now that the picture was blurry...

So, it turns out that my truck was never using oil. The head gasket was on its way out, and that's where the oil was going; I have not used any oil since the head gasket replacement, and it's doing fine even with 0W20. On another note, my truck has been getting gas mileage that I have seen in years; 18-19 MPG around town just like the window sticker said, and up to 23 MPG on the highway!

And I also keep forgetting to mention this. Some of you may remember that a few weeks ago that the coolant levels in the reservoir were fluctuating greatly; I talked to my guy Mike at Thompson Toyota (who oversaw the frame replacement and head gasket job) on a Friday. He was initially going to to have me bring it in the following Tuesday, but after I described the symptoms to him, he determined that my truck was behaving normally; Mike told me that if the actual radiator was low on coolant (which it was not), but fluctuating levels in the reservoir were totally normal. My truck is fine. Then heater works so good these days that Amanda and I were sweating on the drive to and from the storage unit!

Your truck will outlive many new vehicles. Well, everything minus the frame :annoyed:

That's the biggest reason I'm keeping it; I have excellent credit, and I would have pulled the trigger on a newer vehicle, but what's the point?

Only good reason at this point would be to get a new 3rd gen before they stop production.

With states shifting towards EV adoption long term and fancy turbo’s short term, there is a decent chance the 3rd gens are the last “old school truck” Toyota produces in the states. If you want one while they are still new.

I'd rather save up for a house, and I'd probably end up buying a certified preowned one anyway...
