Alright I have a couple questions. I have a 2016sr5. I am looking to make a few upgrades. I am going to purchase the LED headlights OEM and understand I need the conversion cables for that. In regards to the tailights and fogs. I want the trd pro smoked taillights and the led fogs black. Do I need to run any conversion cables for the fogs or tails, don’t want to mess up my electrical. I see contradicting posts on here about them. Any help would be appreciated thank you

Nope the fogs and tails should be pnp.

That said the MESO Total Tail is a fantastic upgrade for the tails that adds functionality and style and for fogs check out the new Diode Dynamics Elites. The output is tremendous (much better than the stock led option) and they still have an oem style look.

I’ve been debating whether to go OEM everything or morimoto everything. I was gona go all morimoto with the amber drls and amber fogs but I got discouraged because some people said it looks super tacky lol I’m still deciding haha

I like my morimoto headlights. I had their xb fogs but got rid of them when the elites came out. The elites are more than 2x brighter. I wish DD would do a headlight using 2-3 of those same diodes along with their RGB drl boards, it would be incredible.

Did you go with the yellow or white fogs?

Can you explain to me the backlight cable you got for the fogs. I thought the fogs were straight up plug and play? I am kind of a novice with this stuff so forgive me if this is a dumb question

I run the Morimoto XB headlights and taillights. I like them — will plan on changing my Rigid fogs to BD SAE fogs in the future.

I've got the VLED stage 1 total tail light conversion and prefer it over Meso's version. Regarding the fog lights whatever kit you buy will have a harness to connect to the factory location (plug n play).

That harness referenced above is designed to connect to Dave Easa's led headlight conversion harness so the fogs backlight will turn on with the daytime running lights. SR5 harness is a little different than the TRD trims, so you might ask Dave Easa himself what you'd need...

If you want LED tailamps and the OEM look, I second the VLED tail light conversion kit.

    https://www.vleds.com/3g-tacoma-vt-tail-light-conversion.html

I have never seen anyone complain about the VLED kit but I have seen lots of people reporting problems with the Meso kit. I also read that the kit was originally a collaborative effort between VLED and Meso but Meso cheaped out on the bulb sourcing....while VLED stayed with high quality bulbs.

I highly recommend the OEM LED headlights over any other, a true bolt on, DOT approved, and just higher quality in my opinion. I have zero regrets with mine, easily the best modification I have done with my truck. The OEM LED headlight install is so much easier with the @daveeasa conversion kit. I can not recommend his high quality work enough.

As for Fogs, those are a personal preference but I went with @crashnburn80 's recommended fog lamps... Diode Dynamics Elite series in the Amber. Just installed them today. I love the look and completely plug and play. Took ½ hour to install and never took a single piece off to access the lamps. So far they look amazing and are so much brighter than the original junk light my truck came with... it was more a marker light than a fog.

The fogs themselves are pnp, but the backlighting feature is not supported as a stock function so you need to find a power source for them. The daveeasa harnesses I got made it easy, else you can splice into something or run a tap out of the fuse box.

FWIW my MESO kit came with VLEDs and I've never had an issue with it. Not all of their parts are winners, but IMO the tail setup is one of the best things they put out.
