Thanks to this one simple trick I now have some new wrenches that I've been dreaming about for quite some time. Homeless Despot flash sale was $100 off and I couldn't resist. Suck it MasterCard, you're never getting paid.

One day it just might happen. I have a set of railroad tracks (that are a legitimate jump when taken quick enough) where I benchmark my truck after any changes. I went over them today to test the impact of the topper. Definitely finds the bump stops easier. Can't wait to get the new leaf springs on and I'm sure I will be getting new bump stops sometime this year too.

I went and priced it on the web site: $310 for a sheet metal skid and I think it was 350 for the unfinished aluminum. $150 for the straps. Thats pretty close to $500...
I found some 1/8 inch that was almost wide enough...

Over a $1000 and I am starting to look at lockers...

There's a spot a few miles away from me that was popular for getting air from railroad track. All the fun ended a few years ago when a group teen girls were out having fun. They caught air and lost control of the SUV. 3 of the girls didn't survive.

Yeah, I don't see the fun in wrecking my vehicle. As far as I can tell, there are plenty of challenging trails all over the country that don't guarantee body damage.

Maybe I don't understand what the trails are like by you guys, but, in my opinion, willingness to destroy one's vehicle is not a skill. :notsure:

    Their straps are overpriced.

I don't? Hence armor and good driving. I'm not here to break stuff, I'm here to push my skills and make it home all in one piece and have fun while doing it.

yeah people talk about trails but they are very different.

Myself i prefer touring - a trail that gets you to somewhere. There may be some challenges but the primary objective is the destination, not the task of getting there.

Lots of people talk about wheeling trails - can I get through this for bro points and hopefully not destroy everything but might.

I'll be installing skid plates soon and wanted to know everyone's opinion on using ramps or floor jacks?

I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but I'd put the truck up on ramps and lift the skids into place with a floor jack.

Basically how to lift my truck, floor stands or ramps. and how to hold the skid up while I work. Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on brands?

Do you need to lift the truck? I did mine on the ground and lift the skid with a jack

I haven't actually gotten under my truck, but figured more working room would be better.

Rhino Ramps for...well, ramps. Big Red 6 ton jack stands with the locking cross-pin. Harbor Freight jacks are hard to beat for the price.

That was on my mind as well but I didn't remember if they have a lift or not. Without a suspension lift it's pretty hard to crawl under there. I've got 2" lift and it's still usually easier if I jack/ramp it for a little extra working space. I'm fat though so maybe I'm biased.
