The guys knows only how to sell vehicles. Not about the vehicle itself. Some of you have too high expectations.

    It’s a one off 3rd gen SR5 TRD Sport.

How nice of Toyota to give it fancy rims and a different TRD Sport decal.

    Might be worth $75k.

But yeah, they don’t know much about it.

If you're interested, run the VIN, get a price off Edmunds and go see them.

Otherwise, don't fret over it. Happens all the time, even on Toyota lots.

Doesn't always mean fraud. Sometimes it's just stupid.

Which is why the buyer should always know what they are looking at.

    PS, no scoop.

Its obviously a used Tacoma, on a used car lot.

'Toyota' nor the dealer did this,
they likely acquired it this way,
    and no,
the sales person doesn't know anything but how to sell a car.

36k for a 21 SR5 with 2WD and 25k on the odometer and here I was under the impression used prices were starting to get more reasonable.

Im almost more embarrassed for the guy who was driving it around with the SR5 decal and TRD decal thinking he was fooling people.

I don't get it at all. Even without the SR5 badge, nobody who knows is going to be fooled and nobody else will care.

Here's my WAG. It's a repo that the financier is trying to recover from, since it's the only hard collateral on the loan.

There will be a few folks in that mess along the way, because folk thought they were flying in high cotton.

Savvy / knowledgeable buyers see and know what this is. Non-savvy shoppers don't. Dealers really don't care which one you are as eventually they will sell this truck for a profit. It's what they do!!!

    Carry on!

That truck is not for us. Just another mom n' pop lot who buy a few attractive vehicles and do their own "0 down, 0 credit" financing at what should be illegal rates. They know their customers can't make it more than 3-6 months before they miss their first payment. Of course as soon as they do that they immediately repo it, give it a wash, and flip it to the next dumbass with overtime wages burning a hole in their pocket.

Its a tale as old as time. Happens everywhere.

Agreed. Only SOME people that own Tacos will know and none of them will care anyway. Look at all the posers here that swap out their grilles. Who cares. Do what you want with your truck.

There are 16M vehicles sold in the US annually.
    2.5M of these are Toyotas.
    250K of these are Tacomas.
Assume every Tacoma BUYER IN THE USA knows SR5 is a trim level. Lol that is 1.5%. The other 98.5% of the vehicles he passes on the road will have no clue.

A while back, on a slow news day, the local station did a report on how these places work. Its fascinating. They said that on average, each car in their lot returns 4 times it's value from the sell, repo, rinse, repeat cycle. Not just a profit commission, 4 times the book value. So if a normal dealer is seeing 10-15% margins, these guys are seeing 300%. They tracked a 1990's Buick Regal as it went through 6 or so owners in a year. A car worth 5 grand, stickered for 8, and they squeezed nearly 20k out of it, off that one car, in that one year. They also pointed out how the lots look horribly run down and dirt poor, but their owners are secretly living on the high-rent side of town.

It was an interesting piece of television to watch.

A claim of stupidity may not hold up in court when it comes to fraud.
There is some burden on the business to properly and responsibly advertise the selling commodity.

    Let's even assume it's a Sport.

36k for a 21 sport 2WD with 25k on it, bananas. Mine was 36 NEW for an OR....Shit maybe I could sell it for break even :D

These guys both KNOW What they're doing, and don't. The sales team is going on "Hey it's what the sticker says, I drive a Civic...."

Paperwork will have the VIN, and the details will be TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK 2WD VIN ABCFU123HIMOM and never mention the trim level.
