I had an Outback that was throwing all kinds of odd codes at one point. Turned out it was the battery going bad. It still started okay, but I guess some of the electronics didn't like the low voltage.

The Tacoma battery ended up in a friend's father's plow truck and finally became unusable last winter. That truck was a 2011, so it had an impressive run. I had put a Northstar in it at the ~5 year mark because I didn't want to chance the factory one any longer.

My tester rates CCA and state of health/state of charge as percentages. So, it's pretty easy to tell if it's just under charged. It's a pretty cheap tester, so I'm surprised they didn't have one that could tell the difference.

The tester's capabilities are limited by the users knowledge of those abilities. Some people just know "hook up, push button" :)

PS @ABA180 you have a ridgeline right? I've heard if the batteries go low on those like Joe's they throw random error codes constantly. Just something to be aware of.

My next battery will be AGM w/ the solar setup to keep it up to the right voltage instead of a tune.

I need to either do something to improve my setup or possibly reduce the number of trucks I do lol

Nice, I had a late start from the all house BS. I only did about 30 in the fall. I think the year prior I did about 50

I got you don't you worry l. Just might do less of the FB people and more of the TW and family/friends. Of course word of mouth spreads the good word lmao so there's always more participants. Let's be honest I'll probably do another 60 if not more lmao

If we're still living up here in the fall, I'm going to have to see if my 2019 will benefit from the frame spraying.

Honestly - if you move, sell the truck.

People in TX see a truck that spent 5 years in New England rust belt!? NOPE!

Otherwise yeah it'll make sense to spray it. The coating isn't permanent, it's why I do mine every year (with varying degrees of success, attributed to dirt and broken skid bolts....)

Since I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off, that's not really an issue. Even if we don't move, we're going to replace my wife's '07 Highlander this spring. Not the ideal time, but she wants something newer with all the bells and whistles (and more) that my SR5 has. The ideal would be to sell the Highlander and buy something after we move, but I don't see that actually happening.

BTW, when my daughter moved to Texas in 2014, we drove her 2000 4Runner down. It lasted about two months before she had to replace it. No one wanted to work on it.

In a Tacoma that happens earlier than most trucks!

Yeah makes sense. I plan to keep mine until it's unusable, or 300k.
