I’ve had the battery light on for a week now, and finally the alternator went out. I just replaced the alternator and now the car won’t crank and the only light that comes on in the dash is the battery light. When I turn the key none of the other dash lights come on like they should. I checked the battery and connections.I put a jumper on it and I’m getting 14 volts on the battery but still nothing. Possibly a fuse?

    Does the horn work?
    Do the brake lights work?

    Let’s start simple.

Just checking the voltage on the battery won't tell you if the battery is good or not. You need to load test the battery.

Could it be a 120a alternator fuse? How can I check if that’s good?

Not if the brake lights work.
But the the 50A AM1 could be blown.
    Do the windshield wipers work?

Key has to be set to run/on position.

The key is in the on position.
Wipers don’t work. How can I check that fuse?

If you're alt was not charging the battery and you ran it till it died there's a good chance you did some damage to the battery.

    Try a Jumpstart.

    But the headlights work.
He isn’t getting power to the appropriate places.
    I doubt it’s the battery.

It has a clear window on top.
Take a look at it, see if it looks blown.
It’s in the fuse box, under the hood.CF78AB6C-137A-422E-9E0C-F0F79AA53C16.jpg

Maybe but lights require VERY little power to work. Enough juice to power a 12v light will not run a wiper motor or power a computer

Always check the fuses but a jump start will rule out the battery.

I did jump it and I didn’t fix the problem. Even without the battery jumper I still had about 12.4 volts.

@KadeA do you have a voltage meter or test light handy?
I believe the 50A fuse is bolted in to the fuse box.
But check power to the fuses it feeds would pretty much tell us what we need to know.

I read jumper but wasnt quite sure what it meant. An emergency jump pack? Those things are finicky, do a jump start with another car. Battery voltage means very little except for how the charging system is doing.

But as you said, check fuses but pull the fuse and test. A fuse can look good and still fail.

I will agree, it can look good and be bad.
That’s why I asked the question above.
That fuse doesn’t come out “easy”

When I say jumper it’s a big 12v battery charger
The fuse doesn’t appear to look blown, but like you guys said that’s not always the case. I checked to see if I was getting power to the fuse box with my multimeter by placing the red onto the big wire that’s bolted in up at the front of the fuse box, and grounded the black end to the car. (Not even sure if this is how you check for power in a fuse box) but I was getting 0

Pull the battery and have it load tested at a parts house.
