I watched a dude in a FJ with a BDS lift wheel circles around a bunch of dudes with “fancier” setups. The person behind the steering wheel is more important than the parts on the vehicle.

Tacomas, 4Runners and FJs. Spending lots of money on what some dude on the internet says is the “best lift” is a bad idea for the vast majority of the Tacoma driving population. Combining 37s with a long travel kit is one of the most expensive ways to turn it back into a short travel kit when you run out of room to stuff that rubber.

If you only care about running big tires, there is not a better solution than a drop bracket lift, they come with lots of compromises but room for big tires is not one of them. And just like every setup, there are different levels, the spacers and foam shock versions are pretty awful off road, but properly speced coil overs and leafs make them as capable as any other lifted Tacoma.

The addition of Fox shocks just by itself is a huge improvement. He's probably still on stock front shocks.

    Yes, Fox pt# 883-02-048 or 883-06-048.

Not that I don’t agree with what you said, but even a short box lifted Tacoma is no match for FJ or 4Runner, Tacomas are way too long for some obstacles, departure and brake over angles suck.

I don’t think you need to remove the spacers to change the shocks.

No... But if you can remove them, there's no harm in doing so (especially if it allows the OP to sleep better at night).

But agreed, the spacers themselves are not an issue.

I’ve never met a 5th gen 4Runner I couldn’t out wheel, but I will put that on the folks that drive them, not the vehicle.

Plenty of times the size of my truck has caused problems, even with the most offensive bits cut off. But if I wanted a more capable trail rig I’d buy a Wranger or buggy, Tacomas are the definition of compromise, ok at lots of things not great at any, even after you throw lots of money at one.

But my point is, “Long travel and 35s” isn’t the answer to most of the peoples here’s problems, and drop brackets and spacers and body lifts are good enough for how most people use these trucks.

I was just offering some insight of what I seen in the past of lawn darting at a somewhat local spot for me at Pismo Beach. Yeah. Depends on the driver too. But I like getting air. And as a driver you can’t predict you’re not going to do a lawn dart. I’ve seen some great drivers out there but you do a lawn dart with a bracket lift it’ll fold on you rendering your ride totalled.. I know most have a certain budget or how or what they may want to achieve with your rides, I just don’t believe in having to cut off a major part of your truck/suv to throw on a huge lift. I been in this game a long time, have had a few taco, Trd pro 4r, and tundras. My last was this one. Tho a pig but was a fun ride. Going smaller this next round.
