I would have if it was from an individual. Bought from a dealer.

It is extremely noticeable from now to when I bought the truck. It used to mis-shift and bog then hunt almost all the time. I live in a fairly hilly area and that made it even worse. I've tracked and drifted several of my cars (such as my profile pic) so I am fairly perceptive of what my truck is doing and it is undeniably better now than <2k miles.

As an aside, do be aware of the risks if you tune your truck. If you ever need to warranty work related to any driveline issues you will probably get the claim denied if the truck has at any point been tuned. Flashing back to stock does not mean you are safe. Some people are lucky, others are not when it comes to this and it is personally not a game I am willing to play so my truck remains stock.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tune-by-chanvchau.736631/page-3#post-26435624

"I assume you mean by this statement that your tune does not alter the OEM ECU ID, making it undetectable to TechStream when a vehicle is plugged in for normal service. With all due respect however, I think stating that this or any tune is "completely undetectable" is a bit misleading. Yes, TechStream won't see it, but if you have a major powertrain issue and Toyota digs deeper into the ECU, they will be able to tell the ECU was flashed and put your warranty claim at risk. Most of us already know this and will make our own decisions, and I grant you that the chances of an issue are pretty slim, but they are not zero as your statement implies. Someone who is unfamiliar or new to the tuning process may rely on this statement and get an unpleasant surprise down the road."

That new GM midsize might end up being a better truck than the 4G Tacoma. 310hp out of their turbo 4, doubt if the Tacoma will match that. I'm tempted to try a Silverado short bed with that motor. If I could get a 3.6 Ram Classic short bed 4x4 that wasn't miles away I think that would be my #1 choice for a new pick up. Despite the fact it's a Ram built in Mexico. That might be the most reliable truck you can purchase new in 2023.

Totally disagree. I've had my 2020 auto 3 years, and the transmission couldn't perform more perfect. It's takes several hundred miles to learn your road conditions, and operating habits. After that it's a joy to drive. People wouldn't keep buying them if all of them were bad.

I have to disagree on the RAM. I was going to buy a Ram but the price kept me in the Toyota. The 5.7 Ram uses the ZF 8HP75 8 speed transmission and that thing is like having baby Jesus for a transmission. It shifts like it's wired to your brain, my brother has a 2020 1500 and the transmission is difficult to fault.

I saw on FB a Gladiator with the pentastar that used for long-distance furniture delivery with only ~200k miles and had needed a whole head rebuild, 3 transmissions, and some other fairly major work. Pretty bad for such a new car that does mostly highway driving.

I'm not into Ram or GM, with all the turbo and hybrid trucks out there, that pentastar might be the most reliable engine after the Tacoma 2.7

I think the short bed regular cab Ram looks the best of any truck for 2023. Yeah it's a dated look but that's why it looks good. I don't like the dial on the transmission selector, but that's my only gripe.

yea, honestly I would have kept my 2007 taco with only 140k miles I purchased new but the frame finally started flaking badly, so had to sell it and is why I have a 2023

I realize I'm in a somewhat different section of the ball field due to driving a 2nd gen AND the 4-cyl, but I have at times had transmission shifting issues as well, as long as I've had the truck (since new, 17 years).

I don't live close to mountains currently but do travel a lot, have spent a good amount of time in mountainous areas, and have noticed that often times the AT just doesn't want to downshift to gain extra power for climbing grades. In the past I always tried to baby my truck but learned that if you mash the pedal, it will often do what you want, and I've suffered no ill consequences so far. Mashing the pedal on grades, on my truck anyway, rarely ever increases speed, but does drop it into lower gear which is noisier but I always felt healthier for the engine. At least that was what I was told growing up. Pulling a grade in high gear at slow speeds just felt really anemic and not right to me.

I've also towed across the southwest U.S., up and over some steep terrain. Locking it into a lower gear helped a lot, though not sure if the 3rd gens still have that option (but instead, only a gear limiting option).

I bought my DCSB/AT Sport in May 2021.

Never noticed the anomaly of the transmission while I was driving in flat land Delaware for the first year of ownership.

Then I started seeing threads about tunes on here...and was impressed with OTT so I pulled the trigger on May 23, 2022.

Been happy with the performance and have had 2 updates since the initial.

Latest is 8.0 with Gear Lock...which is activated using ECT.

Whatever you do...do not mention the tune to your dealership.

Only certain trained engineers can detect such differences...if they happen to be at the dealership when you go in for service. (My opinion only)

I’ve owned a 1988/1997/2007 and now the 2023, I loved all them but it was the same problem over and over again, the frame issues. I live where they salt the roads in winter and it shows. All 3 older trucks I loved, well except for the frames not lasting of course, but ever since the 88, tacoma has been my choice.

    1. Definitely noticed a change at about the 2k mile mark compared to when I first got her.
    2. I tend to use adaptive cruise more often than not. I get her up to speed quickly then ACC.
    3. Drive it like you stole it, she likes that.

I find the tranny much less annoying now.
