Yes! At the stage of flashing your checkbook, things are getting serious! I still recommend @spencermarkd buy one up there and ride it to you. Would make for a good YouTube video!

How does it work buying a bike out of state? I thought it had to be 1 year and 7500 miles to register? Or is that to avoid TTL?

I guess that's one "advantage" to the cast wheels on the bike I want. No tubes. Just have to have a patch kit and a pump. Still, I think it'll be good to be able to change the actual tire just in case I ever upgrade to spoked wheels or a different bike.

You can get spoked wheels with tubeless tires. Various different ways to do it but on my Aprilia the spokes attach outside the bead surface.

When I bought my car current car I had recently moved to Texas. Texas does not allow direct from manufacturer sales, so technically I bought it from Tesla in California. Then, I registered it in Alaska. In Texas they tie the tax to registration, so I paid no sales tax and no registration tax.

I have nothing but time. This is completely an impulse buy for me so I can wait for a good deal the money isn’t necessarily burning a hole in my pocket either.

Well then make a road trip plan. Find something out of state you want to see (national park, family, friends, etc.) and start shopping for stuff around that area. There's way to many places that don't gouge to let it happen to you unless your hands are tied.

When I bought the Grom I bought it from Idaho, paid idaho tax, then took the MCO to my WA DOL and paid the difference between ID and WA sales tax along with the registration stuff and got my WA title. Never touched Idahos DMV. Pretty painless. No idea how CA does it, I have to imagine they found a way to make it more difficult.

I was actually just up the street from the dealer for a meeting so knowing this beforehand, I came prepared just in case. I might try calling my local (smaller) dealer tomorrow to see if they want to play ball. Not holding my breath though.

Another tactic you could try; make note of the mark up amount and go look at gear/accessories that you would buy/add for that amount. See if they'll toss them in. They still get some extra money because they can write the accessories/gear off at the cost price. The only place it bites you is on the taxes.

I’ll make it up to WA and have a cameo appearance on @spencermarkd ’s YouTube channel with the new bike.

I've been playing the very long game with a few dealers right now. Even if it doesn't go through, I'd prefer that vs playing their games and overpaying for some BS fees.

I’ve gotten lucky with my previous bike purchases and had the leverage to get what I wanted at a fair price. I kinda thought coming in ready to pay cash for the Honda would make things smoother- turns out it’s not the case.

Well, when the size of the tire is the size of you in the pic... yeah its going to be a tough time. haha.

It gets easier and you figure out the tips and tricks. The RuGlyde from napa makes things SO much easier. Also on the dirtbike tires with tubes. I put the tube in the tire, set the tire off set from the rim on top of the rim, put the stem through and barely put the stem locknut on. Spoon on opposite of rim lock to rimlock side, then lift over. Like stated you will figure out your best technique the more you do it. Also setting tires out in the warm sun helps TONS.

EDIT. Oh and, keep a few tire tube patches, but also bring the stock thin FRONT tube. It can be used both front and rear (you can roll it in itself to make a smaller diameter). Also, cornstarch, Use liberal amounts of cornstarch on the tube and inside of the tire to prevent chafing and your tubes will last a LONG time.
