Thought you went with the 1500?

 

Nope, can't on a V6 unless you want to use batch fire injection and sacrifice a digital output for another coil pack. They discontinued the 2000 which was perfect for V6 builds, sometime in the future I'll probably upgrade to a Nexus R3

 

I like that. I’m going to steal that idea for the 98.

 

The nexus series are rad.
The 2500 has sequential capability though

That's the beauty of the Haltech, just repin the connector and run a different one. Once this setup is proven I'll go for the R3, I'd like to have the PDM in it anyway. In the meantime the 750 along with the ic-7 dash display as an I/O expander is going to be plenty and get the job done.

 

That's a good idea. I was looking at upgrading to a 1500, but didn't think to repin the connector to then reuse the harness.

There are some other good dash options outside of haltech that are compatible with the elite ECUs. Cheaper and different form factors

 

Can't take credit for that one haha, Dave from Haltech AU even says, there no downside to starting small and working up. They have guides to repin your connector to the dual connector style and he says there will always be someone on their forums or the Facebook group that wants to buy your used Elite 550/750. It's as simple as loading your old tune into the new computer and changing the wire allocations and it will run like it did before.

I've looked at some of the other dashes and none have caught my eye much besides the classic RacePack. But the Haltech ic-7 when used with a Haltech ECU has some benefits being an I/O expander too. It's like having a dual connector ECU model if you have the 750, you get more sensor inputs.

 

Love that. Now if only my ECU plugs weren't exoxied shut on the backside....

If you need the extra inputs, definitely could be useful for that. The other ones are just attractive because they're half the price of the IC7

 

For the most part you shouldn't have to grab more inputs from your old engine harness, if you're running on a 750 you already have 98% of what you need from the engine harness. I suppose with a dual connector ECU you also get knock control but you can just tap those four wires yourself into the new haltech plug, you don't really have to go through the ECU patch harness thing if you don't want to.

I do kind of wonder if any of the other CAN enabled displays integrate with the haltech in any way other than a visual output. Most don't seem to mention any features like that though.

 

Yeah the main thing I would be after would be the knock control. Otherwise pretty sure I don't need any other wires to patch in. Wouldn't be the cleanest way of doing it, but would work just fine that way. Definitely cheaper than having a new patch harness made or buying the parts to remake one yourself.

I can't imagine they do. Haven't seen anything like that listed either. Would be super cool to have one that doubles as an interface with the ECU to change parameters as you would from a laptop. For me that would definitely justify the higher cost for a fancy dash. Otherwise they're just screens porting over information read from the ECU, so imo doesn't need to be anything super premium

 

It was just some light surface rust. So I just washed it and painted over the top with some rustlum black primer with rust prevention.

Also this is were I left off last.
Just need to put the coilovers in and torque everything down. But I'm working the next couple days so this is how it's gonna sit unfortunately.


And... durobumps.com sent me some new updated front bumps, as I may have put the hurt on my old one's. I'll post some pics later, but what a stand up company!!

 

It looks great! I wish I would have done this when I did all of the front end work on the upper control arms and the coilovers.

Change out the alignment cams for those octagon ones while you’re at it.

 

Definitely the time to do it. I imagine that you could whith everything in but it would be a pain for sure.

I would but I don't have adjustable upper arms,so you're kinda stuck with what you can get. Maybe if my truck was trail only but I end up driving pretty far sometimes so I want to keep a decent aliment, hopefully.

 

To be honest, I've never really had issue with knocking my alignment out of whack with the OEM alignment cams. I've built it up to where I can beat on it pretty good and I can't remember a time where I had to fix my alignment afterwards.
I'm in the same boat where I like to be able to fine tune my alignment and I don't have adjustable UCA's.

I use a torque paste marker to be able to tell if things do get knocked out. That way I can tell exactly where I need to correct it back to. Takes out any of the guesswork when you don't have an alignment rack or are out in the middle of nowhere.

 

Yeah I never knocked myself out of alignment either. Mostly what I do is slow crawling though so I imagine that helps.

 

If you have never hit the pavement after wheeling and not had your wheel pointing 20* off center while driving straight, did you even wheel?

 

Then it slowly sinks in that you have 5 more hours of driving to get home like that haha

 

I wonder how many people keep a "doesnt matter" set of tires to pop up front for this very reason
