I really hope there is something between the 265hp 4 cyl and the 366hp hybrid 4 cyl. I think those power levels will pretty much carry over to the Taco, but I don't want a 60k+ Taco, and I also don't want a 265hp Taco either...

Also looks-wise, the render is like a 3 part mash up of the 2nd gen bulldog face, 3rd gen carryover cues, and the new Tundra. I like the bed and cab, but that lower jaw is ruining the face for me.

I want a Manual trans. If they will offer 4 engines then a 6MT shouldn’t be too much to ask for.

4 engines? They have enough issues making 2 right now . I don't see how they would make 4 lol

99.99999% sure the MT is dead after 3rd gen. It's only a small group of enthusiasts that want it and it streamlines production to only have one transmission. If there were more competitors keeping a MT around then the taco might, too, but not with it being the last of them. It's a goner.

The Jeep Gladiator Pickup still has it too, if the V6 carries over to the 4th Gen as speculated, then it will probably hang onto the MT for a few years.

I don't see the V6 going forward either. I hope I'm wrong on both fronts even though I have no stake in it as I won't be buying another Taco for 10+ years (I hope). The newer drivers coming into the market have less interest in the MT, huge interest in green policies that push EVs and hybrids as saviors of the planet, or they are enthralled in the absolutely huge performance numbers of EVs for track stuff. The want for dead simple stuff you can work on yourself will likely be dying off in the next generation that is coming up. Heck, it's already a small minority of car buyers that think about keeping it beyond 3-5 years.

To be fair, a manual is still “standard” when it comes to Jeep. Like if you build one, unless you get a certain engine/trans combo like the 3.0 ecodiesel that is only paired with a 8 speed auto, you have to kind of specify that you want an automatic.

Jeeps can still be bought without power windows and AC, too. They are willing to do this because there are some buyers that are only buying the shell do gut it and they want the lowest price possible. Toyota is less concerned with this aspect than having mass appeal with the Taco, and there's a big sticking point on the transmissions in that regard. Anyone and everyone can drive an auto, but only enthusiasts specifically want the manual. If you are going for mass appeal on something and you are streamlining cost by only offering one transmission, the auto is the only choice. Not saying I approve of the manual transmission dying off, but if you pull up a list of every single non exotic vehicle available with a stick in 2023, it's less than 20 models. The majority of buyers not only don't require a manual, but actively avoid them. With that and the massive regulatory push toward EVs, I think that auto enthusiasts are going to be extinct in a couple generations.

I dunno, when the Supra came out, Toyota said NO to manual for the first 3 years, and suddenly a manual was available due to customer pushback. Then again I'm just being hopeful :fingerscrossed:

To be honest there are more Supra owners that want manual vs Taco owners that want it.

The Supra is also a partnership vehicle. There may have been delays required to prevent cutting into the Z4's sales to quickly. As you said, the supra is really only for an enthusiast audience, and isn't going for the same mass appeal that the Taco is aimed at.

Yes, the Supra (and the GR86 as well) are partnership vehicles, but the GR Corolla isn't, and oddly enough, my son has a GR86 6MT and I have my name on the list for a GR Corolla. :)

I saw a new RX on the road the other day.

I'm wondering if some of this new Lexus design language would look good on Toyota's trucks? Mostly the rounded wheel arches instead of the angular square arches we see Today. Even the front fascia might not look bad, if the vents got smaller and add a separate bumper underneath.

I'm on the list for a Circuit Edition. Why? It seems to be a tad more civil for use as a daily driver. That and the Ultrasuede steering wheel and shift knob are a no-go for me, my hands are always hot as it is and those surfaces would be covered in sweat in almost no time.

The old Supra motor (2JZ) hasn't been able to meet emissions requirements for the past two decades.

There is still a decent take rate of Manual Tacoma's at around 5 or 6 percent, not a ton but still a decent amount.

I also recall some info regarding the MT take rate on the Pro.. in that it's significantly higher than 5-6% IIRC.

Speaking of Chester, the grille on that thing really is the horse's ass. Just when I thought that ghastly "spindle" grille couldn't get any worse. And the glass panels on the D-pillars, really? That fad will be out of fashion in a year.

Yes, the MT will go away.
