Are you referring to the rubber floors? That's part of the charm.

As for seats and knobs and whatnot... Honda on the '00s had a way of making their base trims feel incredibly basic while the premium trims actually felt okay. My '05 Civic EX (EX being the top trim) still feels like a solid car. The lower-trim 7th gen Civics I've seen look much cheaper, even though they're mostly the same.

I'm looking forward to the day when management decides to care about our hosting costs. I've been saying for years that there's money to be saved there.

No no they don't want to save money like that. The exec who signed a contract with the hosting provider probably gets some kickbacks for it

They'll save money by giving 2 percent cost of living adjusts and 4pct "raises". Don't forget dropping office provided coffee or equipment :luvya:

    this is so relatable .

me: this is a bug, customers will hate it

them: it’s not a bug, it’s just an undiscovered detail, here’s a workaround they have to use on every unit anytime they do x, y or x.

    me: they’ll hate that

    Management: overruled, ship it

customer: wtf is this crap, we’re not installing it

i love this stuff, they write it off completely when we had months to fix it. Then we release a broken product and it's urgent to fix it ASAP

Yup. We had a release that was given to my team and the customers on the same day. We found 3 show stopped bugs within a week, and fixes for all within a couple of weeks. The next release, which contained only those fixes, came out 6 months later. Agile my ass

one of the experienced devs told me that they’re not doing agile right at all, right after their program manager literally told the team to start working nights and weekends because “they’re not delivering as many story points as they committed to”. I’m certain some resumes got updates that night.

Someday I’d like to see agile done right, so far I don’t think I ever have.

If done properly it's a totally sensible approach, it just takes commitment and earnestness that many organizations aren't able to muster.

The difference is between "doing agile" and "being agile". The former is halfheartedly following a script and complaining that you didn't get what you want. The latter is actual problem-solving.

Points are supposed to be a best guess for planning but they hold way too much weight in some eyes.

god this is so real. We had a retro on why our sprint velocity went down last sprint. Our burn down was a horizontal line lmao. What happened? Mandatory attendance, Adding tickets to sprint, and pivoting projects mid sprint.

They wanted to understand why devs couldn't maintain velocity under those conditions

Oof. Yeah thatll do it. Sounds like management is clueless as to how work happens and that people are humans.

I can’t blame our team too much. They’re developing new stuff, maintaining old stuff, and maintaining their entire dev pipeline. The Company is constantly pushing them to ditch their “unapproved tools” - jira, Jenkins, open stack, etc, but offers no suitable replacements. Meanwhile management is pushing draconian procedures meant for an entirely different kind of development (as in, building enormous mechanical machines instead of non safety critical software) and it just fucks it all up.

we need real change or we’re fucked in the long run I think
