Manual FTW!!

Ive seen 3 or 4 threads in the past few days on how much people hate the manual transmission. Seems like all people do now a days is complain. I personally love it, its different than a "car", fun to drive especially with a SS on. Who else loves there manual?
I say if you hate it get rid of it......

I'm looking for a Tacoma and so I've driven both and will drive both again before deciding. I started with mtx because I have never had an auto and my 96 Tacoma mtx was the shit. After driving the 2011 I am a hater. I would love to see what the short throw does but I have to lean toward the buttery auto.

what short shifter are you using and does it do ANYTHING strange, like resist going into reverse, grind at any point, etc?

Does it even really matter anymore? It used to be a question of durability and longevity, but the fact is new vehicles have so much electronic shit on them, we're all screwed in the long run anyway.

Chances are before your manual OR auto ever gives up the ghost, some gerbil is going to chew through one of the 10,000 miles of wiring or moisure make it's way into one of the bazillion computers, and fry the electrical on the thing.

no, in fact it actually HELPED the only issue i did have with my manual. It now goes into reverse 9/10 times on the first try instead of 4/10 or 5/10 like before i installed it. Im using the URD SS

 

I don't really get the hate, but maybe it's because I've driven plenty manuals that weren't perhaps considered the smoothest...

Sure the transmission has a quirk or two, but I have yet to encounter anything with it that I'd consider a deal breaker. The damn skip shift on the T-56 is more obnoxious than anything I've encountered with the toyota 6 speed. Did you all expect a truck transmission to act like a car tranny? Have you ever actually driven a shit transmission before? Maybe I'm the lucky one, but I haven't seen anything worth complaining over with this transmission.

I had to insist the dealer get me a 5spd. They really wanted to send me home w/an automatic, but I said ,"No."

A manual tranny forces you to think a bit more, which may be a turn-off to the cellphone obsessed.

I always prefer a manual, unless I'm feeling unusually lazy. Technology is great, but generally speaking vehicles have gotten to where it no longer takes any talent to drive them. You have vehicle stability control, automatic transmissions, anti-lock brakes, fuel injection...any jackass can drive them.

 

Just got my 5 speed a few weeks ago, and loving it.
Im taking it out on its maiden voyage this weekend to see how it goes off roading. But so far all is well.

 

I went with the manual because it gives me something to do, doesn't promote boredom and 13 years of using a clutch I can't give that up. Its not that bad I for one enjoy mine, however it has it's quirks like any other transmission. Proper use goes a long way, so does ideal gear oil. The design has it's flaws though and I think that is people's main complaint, such as the T.O.B. problems.

All in all I'd say if you want a manual transmission go for it, no real reason to not recommend the 6MT.
