I don't want to leave the state but the government makes it hard to justify the state to out-of-staters though.

    Pretty much this.

It's a lot easier for me to stomach the bad that comes with CA since i've always lived here. Can't miss what you never had. As long as I can afford it, I'll stay here in San Diego because in my opinion it's the best place to live in the world, let alone the US. USA territory, great weather, great riding roads, great car/moto culture, beautiful women, amazing food, etc.

I could see how someone in one of the freer states would never want to come here though, and I'd probably be of the same mind if I'd grown up anywhere else.

I hate on Cali a good bit, I lived there for just under 18 years, I love visiting, I wouldn’t mind living out there, I think I’m bitter because it’s such a good place that’s been ruined by certain policies/laws/social climate and if CARB and Cali gun laws and Cali tax rates weren’t the way they are (and getting worse) I would definitely live out there.

I really would like to send my bike out to Cali with my dad one of these times that he goes out for work and ride from San Diego up to Yosemite, but that’s a ride more suited to a Vstrom or África twin.

made the dumbass decision not to check or listen to weather reports today, and decided today was a good day to see if it was warm enough to start wearing my summer jacket for the commute.

Fast forward about 8 hours since then. It's been dumping rain since about 11AM, and I had to deliver some docs to Orange county (1 hr ride or so) on my motorcycle...currently back at my desk fully soaked. Oh, if only i'd still worn my winter jacket and gloves this morning :angrygirl:

I did that once while in full Canadian Tuxedo. Soaked denim gets super heavy and restricts movement more that you might realize.

California is great. If all of the people would leave I'd live there forever.

I was born and raised in Southern California, it was great. Surfed, snowboarded, rode dirt bikes, rock climbed, etc. So many attractive people there too. I don’t think I would move back, but it definitely is a fun state.

This 100% SoCal native born and raised here and its gotten exponentially worse from a policy (on all fronts) and affordability perspective in the last decade that if I wasn't blessed with the living situation I'm currently in Id be out of the state without much thought. The crazy thing is, it seems to be a small minority of squeaky wheels making these decisions for the masses that dont want it.

Anyways, back to motorcycles... cus well rules... Took the rainy day today to fix a throttle MODE switch problem on the super ten, replaced the broken stock slider switch with a push button switch and functionality remains proper but usability is SO MUCH better with a simple push button vs a side to side thing that was original.

I’m taking the Aprilia into the dealer in the morning to get it checked out. It has this weird problem where the headlight doesn’t work if the temperature is below 40ish degrees. Even gives the pop up warning message for the headlight unit being disconnected on the TFT screen. Warmer than 45° and it works perfect. Hopefully just a loose connection somewhere but I couldn’t find anything obvious when checking.

Could a mechanical relay be to blame? I know some generic relays will do funky stuff in extreme temps with the internals shrinking and swelling in cold/hot. Swapping to a solid state relay should do the trick (if that’s the issue).

i go relatively frequently, my closest freinds growing up all live there for one reason or another, as well as a few of my cousins
ive lived in south lake tahoe, the east bay of SF and have spent months at a time in huntington beach, have traveled through just about most of the state

i have witnessed the ass backwardness so no denying that, but just feel to be fair one can point out a plethora of issues in just about any state/city/country

but yea like @nd4spdbh said, back to motorbikes :bikewhoops:

this thing has been for sale locally now for months, I am getting the itch with spring time just around the corner here in the north east

that price is very high for an XR650L, if it was an R, yes, but you can buy a brand new L for not much more.
    Edit:
Looks like warp 9 wheels which are around $900 a set. I'm seeing similar model years in my area going for around $4K, I think $4300 would be a good place to start for price negotiation.

Well. Clutch officially grenaded. Backside of this disc alone is missing 10 out of 12 pads. Worst one I saw but most are missing at least 1 or 2. I reallllly hope this shit didn’t make its way into any tiny oil orifices or jets.

Holy shit! Thats one of the worst I have seen. How cooked did the metal discs look?

Oil pickup screen (if there is one) and or oil filter should of picked up particulate matter BEFORE major lubrication points.

Id be ditching that recluse (or heavily investing time in tuning it to lockup quickly), run it a bit and do a few quickly spaced oil changes hot to get contaminants out.

This is what I picked out between the discs. Of all of them, 2 sides still had all their pads. That’s it. Freaking wild. They’re worn, but they just like, detached, I could flick some of them off by just running my finger over it. I have no idea what happened. I plan on emailing rekluse to see if they’ve seen it before or what.

Metal discs had a bit of color but weren’t burnt by any means. You reuse 1 bmw friction disc in this setup and it was perfectly fine. I’m still blown away. Freaking wild.

Once I get a clutch I’ll drain and drop the oil pan and try to get any fragments out. Luckily it drains directly down into it so my hope is the rest of the pads are all sitting at the bottom of the sump.

Man, that one day I spent trying to wheelie 3 years ago really cooked it I guess

Ordered a new EBC clutch kit with all metal and fiber discs and new springs for $250, I'm happy with that when ma BMW wanted $500. Guess I'm going to have to be a plebian again and use the clutch when a come to a stop :pout:

Edit: plus another $160 from MaxBMW of various gaskets, seals, oil strainer, o rings, etc to pull apart oil pan
