Purely for selfish reasons, spend the hundy, measure the current hub to fender and then measure the new hub to center. It has always puzzled my engineer brain that steel in a non-plastic deformation state "sags" which is creep. Polymers - sure, the polymer science guys try to avoid the question, but plastics creep, steel, not so much. Steel has a near infinite fatigue life. I am genuinely curious. None of the 1st gen forum guys have done the effort to measure. My '02 with 249k miles just doesn't look different in photos from '03 until now. I can appreciate the bushings and whatnot compressing and squishing about, but I just don't get the steel.

I prefer to do it off the truck. It’s only a couple more bolts at that point and then you’re not fighting everything to get the leafs all aligned. When you’re doing it on the truck, you’d need the axle to droop out fairly significantly in order to have room to get the new centering pin back into the leafs and that can be problematic on stock brake lines.

It's good insurance for me to do it. I probably will, he's also got some TRD bilstein rear shocks that are no different than my 5100s, but look cool. I'll make him an offer.

Thanks, that's what I was looking to hear! All the videos I've seen do it on the truck.

Feel free to try it on the truck of course! Obviously tons of people prefer to do it that way. Just remember that sometimes videos make it look easier than it seems and no shame in pulling the pack from the truck.

Speaking of videos making it look easy. Swapping dirt bike tires is a major pain.

LMK if you need 3rd gen takeoffs. I bought some with only a few miles on them. I never installed them bc I started buying heavy shit for my build.

Truth be told, I'm looking at the 6112 coilovers/5160 kit with the 0.4" lift and a rear Alcan mini-pack. I don't want lift, I want added capacity. The last time we were camping I convinced my wife we should weigh everything we brought in - 354 lbs of gear and water. Now I add a ~125 lbs tongue weight of my camper, I want it to pull nicely down the highway and the USFS roads.

Probably gonna be playing in the cinders on Sunday with a customer of mine that has a TRX. Gotta show him the difference between buying a 6 figure stock truck and building one from a much cheaper starting point lol. I know I’m gonna walk all over him in the rough but kinda want to make some challenges in the mild stuff where he has triple the horsepower

if anyone wants to come out for some fun

Obviously it's the assistant you're using that's causing the issue. I can tell his mind is not on the work at hand. Fire that guy and do it yourself.

Out here yeah. The sun was beating down on it all week. Might be some patches in the cinders in the shade still but I’m guessing it will be pretty much all gone

Beautiful weather out today, and the 4 year old wanted to shoot the foam sprayer and wash the truck:
