Maybe its just the Texas built Tundras and Sequoias that are having the issues....seems to be the trend.

I'm still trying to figure out what intelligence is in the 3rd gen 6spd auto transmission. That enables the transmission to learn how you drive the truck, and adjust to your driving habits.

Wasn't the transmission engineered to work with the two available engine options for maximum fuel efficiency?

Why would the transmission work differently depending on your unique driving habits?

Just a feel good thing owners tell themselves after they adjust their driving patterns to fit into the absolute abysmal programming of the 6 speed.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
    Great video.

interesting that my 2016 TRD OR access cab, has had no engine issues or leaks anywhere. No leaks in the entire truck.

i am at 75K miles now, and about 20K of that is very hard off road driving. Plus on all of my trips, I am hauling ass up the 97C connector from Kelowna to Merritt with 1,000 pounds of gear in the back, doing 75mph all the way up.

For those not familiar with this stretch of highway, watch the TV program Highway to Hell. So many trucks set on fire trying to get up that hill in summer, and it is brutal in winter. Oh, triple digit temps are common in summer where I live. The AC, and the heat also work very well.

Are my engine and leak issues coming soon? Could very well be the case considering the beating my truck takes.

Yes, I still long for my 1986 Ford F150, straight 6, 4 speed manual, and indestructible. Simplicity at its finest.

With that truck, 13 years of trouble free driving, and about 50K off road miles on that truck. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were still made simple like that.

Zero recalls, zero breakdowns, and just regular wear and tear maintenance. Not a single leak of any kind in all that time.

Modern complexity and computer everything, do not bode well in the long run.

I know all about those highways!:D
My taco has been great, I’ve got no complaints at all, it does everything I ask it to. I also travel over advertised payload.

But yeah, friend in highschool had 1990 Ferd F150 with the I6 and 4spd. Indestructible machine. We did break stands in second in his driveway when we were like 16 hah.

I bought my 2017 Sport access cab, manual transmission 4 x 4, new for only $22,500. Shorty after, I put on a “take off” PRO suspension for $1500. At 73,000 miles no problems yet. If problems do arise, I would rather fix them instead of buying a new truck for maybe $10,000 more as a way of possibly preventing problems.

It doesn't unless my wife starts driving it more. No one else drives my tacoma, so its got a good memory who used it last.

Just checked for coolant leaks in the back and all good. The only issue the truck has from this cat’s knowledge base is the front valance that popped out like he said it would if it was “tapped.” Yeah, tapped, lol.

    No biggy whatsoever.

EDIT, just realized I put the wrong year’s build date. 11/17

    Known issues.

These three issues were fixed via recalls:
    3rd brake light
    Fuel pump
    Adaptive radar sealed

    Front valance popping out.
Click up front going over speed bumps.
Tapping noise in the dash taken care of by the Falken Wild Peaks, lol.

Thasit. It’s been realiabe like my other Tacomas in the past. This is my 5th Taco.

I'm sure the 6spd auto is fine. I just can't believe the transmission is capable of learning, and adjusting to different drivers. The Tacomas over at the car rental places would be an absolute nightmare to drive.

The new Tundra and Sequioa don't have a transmission that learns and adjust to different drivers.

Knock on wood!!!!! My 2017 has been perfect so far. I only have 21000 on it to this point. I'm always checking the "problem" areas he talks about in hopes of catching an issue early. The first small sign of problem and it might go up for sale!!! LOL

Problem would be the torque on bolts if made on Mars.

The pull isn't the same. :rimshot:

Wife has a 17’ TRD Pro 4Runner and I’d take a Toyota built in the Tahara plant any day over a Baja built…..without a question. The Japanese are amazing. That said I currently drive a 14’ Taco with 77k on the clock, been a good solid truck. Called dealer this morning and ordered a 23’ though. Owned a 16’ when they first came out and loved the truck itself but man that tranny drove me nuts. Hopefully the factory tune will be a bit better than in 16’ and if not at least we have some good tune options available to fix it.

I drive a '22 with 9,000 miles on the clock and the tranny is still learning me, chasing gears all the time. I know almost exactly where, on my daily commute, it will start acting up. It doesn't bother me much, but I can see why it pisses some people off. I wonder why you'd want to get rid of your practically still breaking-in '14. The 4.0 is (imho), a better engine.

Had a 2018 Trd OR AC built in Texas, and now a 2022 with all the same factory specs from Guanajuato. The 2022 is better. That plant is doing very good work, and is (according to Toyota) their best plant in NA.
GJ is likely where the 2024s with the 2.4 will come from…TJ may be doing the 2.5 versions….we shall see.
