Dang! Honestly, I don’t really know how it works with independent shops. Clearly, they can charge whatever they can collect… I used to think mechanics kinda live and die by the book. At least the ones who do warranty work do. Labor guide hours for timing chain replacement is 12 hrs. Granted that is probably on a clean new truck with tools laid out and some suit holding a stop watch.

Yeah, if/when things change and I have a shop space and money I’d want to dedicate to ICE power, then I’d probably take some small/old Honda and turbo it with a Megasquirt so I can get deep into the tuning part, but for now I’ve lost interest. When I got it, it was 90% perfect for my desires, I just had to add the camper and leaf springs that could handle the +400lbs and then some smaller things like changing where the intercooler pump taps power for the relay.

    Yes

Man I feel this. I just pulled the trigger today on a used 19k mile 1GRFE off of eBay for 5k. Still gotta figure out what the cause of the valve damage was on my current engine before I run the new engine. I plan on leaving the cam gears stock in the new engine and reinstalling the factory manifolds rather than installing the URD’s back on. I just want a reliable truck and I’ve learned she’s not a race truck… the extra power of the SC def helps with all the weight though. I’m kinda with @nudavinci64 in that I’m in it too deep to sell it haha. I intend on my kids beating this thing around some day

The GT500 has a higher top speed, but he M3P is quicker 0-60. The M3P tops out at 162. But there just isn't anywhere around here to drive that fast. I usually back off at triple digits, I'm not trying to get a felony in driving my car on the street, too old for that. Impressive numbers for sure though.

EV vehicles are soulless. I'm not that old yet. My friend went off grid with his model 3 for a hiking trip and the satellite gps lost his signal. Couldn't open the doors lol..

@White lightning boosted desperate times call for desperate measures. I hope you can take a break and come back. Sometimes working so much, for me at least, I forget why I'm working... A catastrophic failure in plans doesn't help. Keep going. Keep building. It gets better

I drove a model Y a couple years back. Felt like getting shot out of a cannon with no tire chirp whatsoever. Felt like driving an iPad though, didn't really like it at all other than the sheer acceleration.

Being a manual fan it just felt even more simplified from an automatic trans. You barely even need to use the brake pedal.

@nudavinci64 @White lightning boosted I don't mind if we're all old together. I feel like I'm getting mentally younger every day but I'm proud of being physically old.

Header nuts keep wanting to back themselves out and fuck up my nice tuned closed loop system.. lil bastards. Any reason not to throw a line of high temp rtv on them like you see on heavy machinery and roller coaster hardware?

if i had to solve it i would go that route. temp safe threadlock solution. would think future access wouldnt be tough.

Yeah, future access might be a bit gunky, but that stuff should just peel off. Might clean threads a bit beforehand to get a nice clean surface for the muck to adhere to.

Heard one guy on here continuously ranting about this with a more involved solution (arp exhaust studs and lock washers).

unless yours rusted/seized on, I think it’s a good check to make. Unless you have the spec U equal length urd headers it would be super minimal effort for efficiency gain. Let them loosen up enough and it sounds like rod knock.
