Toyota is far from perfect. Still of if the best manufacturers but they all have their own issues. Hopefully you’re not oblivious to all the frame issues over the years as well? Which by the way are still seemingly plaguing the Tacoma to this day.

backing off the throttle would make it worse if you already struggling to maintain speed in 6th gear at 45 mph

Idk, a buddies didn't. Once a pooch always a pooch. I think if you don't start seeing a major improvement by 1k miles, you probably never will. It reminds me of a stroke I suffered years ago. You'll see the biggest improvements in the first 6 months. After that its much smaller gains.

I have a hard time with people talking about QDR (Quality, Dependability, Reliability) with the Tacoma. Mainly because how can a vehicle be all of the above when the frame is rotted out. They have had plenty of time to address that issue and make changes so their frames are better than any of the competition. I live in the salt belt and my 3rd gen after 1 winter even having treated the frame looked worse than my previous F150 after 3 years that had 0 treatment to the frame. I also feel like the 3.5 is still too early to fully rate. Glad I didn’t keep it for the long haul.

Didn’t fix mine. Or even improve areas of concern. Only thing it fixed was my brain. Learned a lot.

I guess it’s each and to their own, I like the looks of them and lifted even better. The 1988 Tacoma I owned got 260,000 plus miles before it retired. sold it to a buddy who drove it till no longer drivable. Your correct on the frame, Toyota should have addressed this long know issue way before now.

How long should it last? Seriously. 10 years? 20? 5? What are expectations? I live in a place where frame rust is never gonna happen. Point is,salt belt maybe different than down south?
However, drivetrain should be the same.

Well, Seeing how dependable the drivetrain is, I personally would want the frame to last a good 20yrs. I always took great care of mine, in winter kept everything sprayed down and in summer kept the frame painted, if you just drove them without any undercarriage care I wouldn’t expect them to last, but taking care of them should last a good long time. I just get tired of getting rid of a perfectly good truck due to frames. My last 2007 was meticulously cared for, still looked as close to new as it could, didn’t even have a door ding and had to send it away due to the frame.

Took a couple thousand miles for mine to adapt, now I rarely notice it. If you are a spastic driver, it doesnt really seem to adapt.

Your crazy frame last 20 years:crazy: where I live in the rust belt there are tons of vehicles less than 5 years old that have all kinds of rust. This is not just a Toyota problem this is salt problem as hiPSI said. I’ll give you Toyota frames aren’t great but properly taken care of they will last a long time.

That sounds a lot like the early years of the 3rd gen. My 2021 is not like your description and it is completely stock.

Anyone that says a tune will "fix" all your "problems" is straight up lying. A tune will make issues less noticeable at best. Nothing on these trucks can be fixed, but it can be made much more enjoyable. We all learn to live with whatever is bothering us, it builds character.

My 2018 Silverado gear hunted constantly with an 8 speed, and had the stupid 4 cylinder shutoff.

Has a reputation for having torque converters go out, the valves getting fucked up from the cylinder management crap, and not a short list of other expensive issues.

My 99 is no rocket ship either, maybe the 2nd gen guys got spoiled on the 4.0. My 2 cents if the new Tacoma is anything like the other half dozen Toyotas I’ve owned it’ll likely run for several hundred thousand miles without major issue

They very well might be, if you had a buddies 2019 tacoma auto. I could see where a transmission as such could get annoying just knowing toyota has far better running ones out there, yet they tell you it's normal, nothing can be done.
