Did the shape of the rear ‘pumpkin’ on the e-locker rear end change at all in the 2nd gen years? Is it the same shape on the FJ and 4Runner and Tacoma?

Agreed. And ultimately I will probably have to make a template, and trim it up. But it seems that my diff is a slightly different shape, and I’m really just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Some of this Some of that
That diff with the skid already installed looks like a much older diff from the 90’s or something

agreed. Looks more like the 8” diffs from the early Toyota trucks not one with an elocker. Wonder what brand the skid is?

It’s a Solo Motorsports skid. I thought that pic was on an FJ cruiser, but I may be mistaken. It’s marketed for the e-locker rear end for 05-15 Tacoma, 07-14 FJ, & 03-15 4Runner.

maybe they sent you the wrong part to weld on? I’ve had that happen to my by other companies, checked their website and it looks the same to me though.

Yeah it looked the same in the pics on their website. The only thing I can think is that the rear end in the FJ and 4Runner is slightly different somehow? They both run coils versus leaf springs on Tacoma...

I doubt the pumpkin is different, I’d call then and ask at a minimum before you start modifying the kit.

Hmmm… yeah that’s the only thing I could think of that was different between them.
I did email them Thursday, last week… I’ll go ahead and call tomorrow, and see what’s up. Im not too keen on modifying a brand new part.

Unfortunately, that won’t work either. It’s supposed to mount like this:

I believe that dual vvti 4.0L FJ and 4runner have a different rear end pumpkin (bigger) but I could be wrong.

Got a call from the company today, super cool people! Apparently they’ve come to find out through the sale of this product that there are slightly different variations of the e-locker rear end. They were nice enough to compensate me some for the inconvenience. So now I can start to manipulate it, and see if I can get it to fit proper. Thanks for all the input! Truly appreciated.

Interesting, I've always thought an 8" elocker pumpkin section was the same, I know they are interchangeable with 1st gens with elockers too. Obviously the axle shaft lengths and hub/flanges are different but always thought the back portion of the housing would have been the same given the 3rd member is the same.
