Have you upgraded to the 105 series sector shaft and pitman arm on your Cruiser? You never had the frame crack near the sbox right?

Also I didn't realize that 120s, 4th gen 4runners, and 2007-09 FJCs used essentially the same rear diff as a TRD first gen Taco. There's been a lot of cases of those breaking with heavy off-roading since they were originally designed for a light pickup truck.

I've been wondering if this means the "8.4" diff on my truck is stronger than the rear diffs on the pre-2010 Prado platform.. Probably won't matter for me anyway but I'm just curious.

The 8.4 center section is stronger than the traditional 8" yes, that is pretty well documented. It's why you see many here clown TRD buyers because you can make a stronger version of their biggest feature with the regular diffs.

Replaced it with a smart light that has built-in dimming and more -

    20230311_104534.jpg

Also, every room is pre-wired for a ceiling fan so each room has a dimmer/toggle as well as a toggle beside it.

Thing is, most modern ceiling fans just use a single hot to control both the fan and light built in making the extra switch on the wall unnecessary.

That's why I bought these two gang, single blank wall plates-

I hate "extra" switches that do nothing so short of installing a single gang box and covering the gap I figured this was the next best clean option.

That trail has been groomed/maintained to be for new Tundras with a RTT that are looking to camp in the victor camps but want a little spice on the way instead of driving a county road to get there. Its a good trail but not intended to be challenging. We match the trails with rigs when setting up a ride. The idea is to keep from having anybody get stuck or doing body damage.

100s are ok if you like to work on them a lot to get them into shape. It took months of being in the garage to get mine refreshed and built. The Tacoma was the fastest build that I've done in the past 13 years.

It is and when they get home and report to the group on the good time they had. A number are first time off-road. So we out of our way to make it a fun experience.

They definitely pack a formidable punch pound for pound off-road. However, I talked to a trip leader from SW Co. who told me that gen of IFS doesn't hold up well in situations with more constant traction, like Moab, SH, Rubicon, etc. The full-time 4WD system like on the 80 series seems to hold up a lot better in places like that. After all, at Moab you're basically using 4x4 on pavement.

I'm not that worried though since I don't plan on going to those places or rock-crawling. The Tacoma is well-suited to the terrain around here. Hell, a Samurai might be even better haha.

I say it jokingly cause many, many of your inquiries stem from 'doubts' you have in the Tacoma/4Runner/GX platform...or IFS in general.

They are much more stout than you would ever believe them to be, and most breakage occurs from stupidity. It's just much less forgiving in a situation like you described above which are high-traction areas, but really a non-issue for you as you don't do that sort of wheeling anyway.

That and if you did, you would have more experience under your belt by then to prevent from such breakage anyway.

My 100 series was an accidental purchase because rusty 3rd gen 4Runners were selling for crazy prices. The thing that happened after bought it was my preparation for a week long Colorado trip in 2021 and again in 2022. Had I bought a 3GT4R like I wanted, I wouldn't have ventured any further out than maybe Oklahoma. So in a way a good off-road community based on a given make/model makes the experience. I learned some valuable lesions about structuring like vehicle configurations for a group trip where everybody has a great time.

You should stop talking and start Wheeling. You'll never get a more accurate picture of what the trucks are capable of than from doing that

    @Ozark_RegCab

I've been waiting anxiously for you to really take your truck off-roading, pushing it passed what you've done before, and excitingly posting about it here.

You really just need to experience it yourself.

I was just reporting what this on guy told me. I thought it sounded like he was exaggerating honestly. They wouldn't be such a popular platform if they were as weak as he was saying.

My old 98 did really well off-road with the stock suspension and 31s; in fact I was shocked how well it did.
