On the note of mod day stuff, anyone have a leaking steering rack issue on the 3rd gens? I’ve got some kind of fluid on the bottom side of the boots.

Don’t need to know today but if you do decide to do it let me know and also let me know if the cv is something you can also do. I will start looking into getting new ones.

Rack needs to be rebuilt, new seals blah blah, or time for a new one. National back order so start looking now!

Oh man that’s annoying. That was one of the last parts I wanted to ever replace… well, what’s the worst that could happen?

You look for 2 months buying over and over only to have to settle on BBB brand or a rebuild because the rack leaves a puddle of paint remover everywhere you go:anonymous:

Wasn't terrible but not fun either

OEM is best but Napa is fine also. I have a pair of new Napa axles. Happy to let one go for a deal. Maybe we trade your bad oem and I'll reboot it..

The passenger side is the one I need done but I would also like to get the ECG done and I figured if you have to pull the cv out then I would replace that one too.

What's it look like? My TR boots would be moist underneath some days and completely dry most others. Can't explain, definitely not leaking anything either so :notsure: if mine ever goes out I'm just going tundra rack at that point, hopefully not for a good long while

Tell tail would be to move the clamp and pull the boot back. If you have ATF (what toyota uses for power steering fluid) in the boot then you're rack is leaking

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
My rack leaks a little bit. Not enough to puddle but enough to show on the boots. I just keep it topped off. I've been doing it for years now.
