Paint peel Super White

Same truck same problem for me. Dealership wont budge from their script. Shame it's gotten so bad on a truck with only 39k miles.

 

Same story here, door panels started to flake along with part of the engine bay under 30k miles but the it was a 2017. Never thought I would have to worried about paint problem with a Toyota.

 

Well 8 months after the repaint, the rear driver’s side door started peeling in December. I took it back the the Auburn Toyota body shop and they confirmed that particular door wasn’t painted. Strange because they previously told me the entire cab was painted except the front bumper. They are going to repaint this door also but, honestly I have no faith in the paint holding up. I spoke to another body shop and their GM had a white tundra with the same issue and they stripped that thing to bare metal because the issue is not the paint, but the primer. I am considering selling this truck after the paint job and getting a new model in a different color. Damn shame because I haven’t had a truck payment in over a year!

 

Hey SD17Limited, how did you make out? My local Toyota Service Manager told me to blow up Toyota corp phone. I tried that, spent an hour each time outlining the same history just to be told the Tacoma is not included in the recall as not enough people have complained. Finally, I put signs in my back windows "peeling paint" a pic of a lemon and "compliments of toyota" I parked it on the lot for an hour where I bought my truck. Perhaps I will drive around with the signs in my windows for while, although it is a bit embarrassing.... I do travel between MD, DC and southern VA so it will have high visibility. In the meantime, I have an appt. to get the front driver and rear passenger doors, front fender and roof painted in June.

 

My 2019 super white is peeling on back door. Kinda surprised to see this was even a problem but pissed Toyota is ignoring it.

 

Dealer found some paint flake on mine while it was in for service, they are fixing at no cost to me. Truck was recently purchased however so theyre placing the blame on themselves for not inspecting well enough

 

You mean Tijuana? Let’s call it what it is! Toyota refers to it as Baja California because, saying their truck is made in Tijuana hurts PR. My 17 was made in TJ and I noticed on day one of owning it that the paint had an orange peel effect around the windows. Low and behold that’s where all the peeling starts.

 

Still no peeling on my 17' made in Mexico. Not sure what makes the difference. I dont wash it often, does that help? ha ha

 

Every month Toyota can put it off, is a few more trucks totalled or off the road for one reason or another. The longer they can postpone the cheaper it is for them. They pull out their abacus and get it all figured out. They only care about profits you know and right now stuff is still selling at a premium so they know we wont buy something else.

 

I revoke my comment. Found a bubble this week on the window frame. Its probably going to get progressively worse in the next year.

Thats what I get for washing my truck.

Hopefully I get my truck back this week after a second round of being painted. So far the dealership it’s at offered me 27k for an otherwise clean truck with TRD PRO suspension, SCS wheels, bakflip tonneau and 79k miles. They had the nerve to say they could only offer me that due to the known paint issues!!! KBB says 31-33k

Stay tuned, we are going to be asking each one of you for the details on your paint (040 and 070) peeling issues. I'm going on my 3rd spot paint job and that was the defining moment.

 

I'm all for this professional help. Just let me know how and what you need. All my window grooves and engine bay grooves are toast. Nothin but primer on a 2016 Tacoma. Its not super white anymore.

 

Don’t need to post a photo, it’s the same on my 2017 Mexican Taco.

 

Just popped the hood today to add windshield washer fluid and found both sides of my 2019 SR5 fenders chipping away as well...

 

Well this thread is no fun

and I only found it when I searched for Toyota paint warranty after my ‘17 started shedding paint on the window frames last week.

 

Both rear windows have significant peel as well edges of engine bay. When is Toyota going to acknowledge this as a problem and do something about it?

 

I haven’t read thru the complete thread , but someone should start a list of the type of issue and the vin number …. That way we can figure out what batch or or who it was that’s causing this issue …. Just my .02. I also have an ice cap 40 paint code
