And yet, here I look for my daily chuckle.

 

That looks like where Sweers got his inspiration for the 3rd gen. Let's use the cab we already have from the 2rd gen and then put some strange looking fenders on all four corners then top it off with some disproportional sized head lights and an ugly grill. We will sell millions of them.

 

I gotta call you out on this ^^^. No vehicle in the history of the world has fruitier-looking fenders than the “wave-motif” fenders on a 2G Tacoma. Probably borrowed from the hideous Lexus line-up? I dunno…….but a 2G fella has no right to criticize a 3G fella for having “strange looking fenders”. That is insane.

 

2G fenders are ugly



The front fender lines are going one direction the rears are going another the wheel arches don't have a uniform shape smaller to the front larger in the back.

I really think Toyota was trying to emulate the lines of the YJ Wrangler.

While I'm at it, what's with the 3G Tundra and that front and rear overhang on the wheel arch, where the flare doesn't quite rearch?

 

I agree. The tundra fenders drive me nuts as well. Assuming the “purpose” of these pieces of black plastic is to protect the edge of the painted bodywork from debris kicked off the tires, why the hell doesn’t it protect the most line-of-fire part of the fender? Makes no sense.

 

Yeah that's it I can't quite figure it out. I guess it makes the arch look wider from the front and rear angle. Like you said the flare isn't providing any protection since it doesn't cover the opening of the arch.

 

I hate to say it, but for me the Tundra is the least appealing pickup on the market. It always has been. I love the Tacoma. It's a great vehicle for the class it's in. I despise the Tundra. It handles like a cruise ship, it's overpriced, and it has very little utility, or for that matter, luxury compared to the big 3. I'd take either an F150 or a Ram 1500 over a Tundy any day of the week.

X2. While the reliability is great, I would prefer an F150 over a Tundra any day of the week. I’m a superintendent and my company F150 is awesome.

 

I agree, the Tundra was nice when it was the size of the Tacoma (had one of those), but now they're just pigs (had one of those too). It takes like 3 acres of concrete to park a Tundra.

This was the perfect size imo...

 

Extended cab Tundra was the best. The current Ranger extended cab seems to be close in size, but that's about it.

I assume you're talking about the 3rd Gen.

 

2nd and 3rd. The dealer loaned me a 2019 for a week, and I absolutely despised it. I'm guessing people love zero feedback on the wheel. I don't. Its the automotive equivalent of a limp handshake. It spins as freely as one of those pretend wheels they mount next to the playground slide, and it is almost as productive in moving the object its attached to. Its a Nissan Juke with a 5.5 foot bed.

F150 will at least give you fake feedback through their artificially stiff power steering, and I still like that better than the handling characteristics of a Tundra. It's abysmally bland. It is such a black-hole-absence of personality that it actively removes yours every time you step near it. If you asked Tundra whether it prefers chocolate or vanilla, it would ask for tap water. Some vehicles have no logical explanation for existing, let alone being so popular. The Tundra is one of those.

 

Soooo what's the verdict here?
