I have a 4 banger, MT. She’ll go if I wind her up. Not a fast vehicle, but she’ll move out pretty good at higher rpm’s

Agree most don’t have those problems I linked to, but there are certainly more than a “few” if you read all the posts. And that’s just on TW there are for sure many more with those issues not on TW.

I consider it a public service caution to provide those links to those considering a 4 cylinder vs a V6.

Plus it’s fun to post that when V6 plastic oil filter guys start hammering the 4.

What we know for certain is the number of plastic oil filter housings broken or leaking is zero.

Haha probably true. But the number of TW guys who’ve ended up having to cut that stuck on plastic filter off is >1.

Why the number of times I’ve ended up using a large screwdriver hammered in to a honest to god real metal spin on filter to get it off is just 1. And wasn’t my Tacoma.

Durability/reliability differences are probably negligible at this stage in both motor’s lifecycle. And that’s really the only possible difference worth debating.

Otherwise, you’ll go even slower off stoplights & onramps, you won’t get better mileage, you won’t tow as much, and less people will want to buy it from you if and whenever you choose to sell it.

For the relatively modest cash that Toyota asks to upgrade to a V6, it’s almost impossible to select the 4cyl. I honestly wonder if Toyota only still offers it b/c they need to get rid of overstock sitting in some warehouse.

If you're gonna use it the way you say , and do not put on monster truck rims and tires. Or tons of excessive useless " gear ". It will be perfect, good luck.

Very little of what you posted is true, not even worthy of a rebuttal. But have fun lol.

    What is your budget?

If a brand new 4cyl vs. a brand new 6cyl is your budget dilemma just find an older less expensive truck. I know the Tacoma markup is even more ridiculous than usual these days (which is what converted me to my last two Tundras for way less), but be patient and wait for a good deal.

I retract my warehouse theory. Unable to confirm that with Toyota.

Seriously though the 4cyl is a fine motor that probably does not belong in a 4500lb truck in 2023.

Good enough lol. Just so you know my 4 cyl access cab weighs something over 3900 lbs and I really do find it acceptable. Has a 1500 lb cargo rating and a 6 ft bed. I knew what I was getting and exactly what I wanted for a reliable truck to last my retirement.

If it weren't for that awful throttle-by-wire curve, it would feel a lot more responsive.

I don't think they even offer the 4 cylinder in Canada any longer.

    Well, I have a 20' SR AC 2.7... had for 2 1/2 years now.
No, it's not a rocket-ship... I bought it specifically for the 4-banger. (Regardless of what others say, I get a consistent 26-27 mpg, which is what I wanted..)
Is it too slow? Not for me and how I use it. My truck is basically 90% of the time a pavement princess/grocery-getter/road-tripper... But, I have zero probs passing up the logging trucks/semis/grandma's in Buick's/etc etc. Even with a 200 lb. shell on it and (Currently, because of winter here) 300 lbs of tube sand in the bed.
Romping on the pedal will not snap your head back, but then again, I've never once had a 'Oh shit!' moment where I thought I couldn't pass something up in time.
So for me... It's got enough poop to it and gets the kind of mileage I was hoping for. Win-win in my case..

I think we all know that the 2.7 will outlast the 3.5. The question is: by how much.

The 2.7 with 4 speed was unbearable. Bad trans and low power.

The 2nd gen 2.7 5 speed was my favorite. Fun to drive, reminded me of old barebones trucks.

The 3rd gen we never sold many, and I never saw a 3rd gen manual 2.7. But the 6 speed didn't improve much. They all felt heavy and slow. On top of nearly all being 2WD.

    How long without major repairs?
    87,456 miles longer.
I know this is a factual number because I just made it up.
