It's weird how things work out like that sometimes. At least you got to choose the exact shell you wanted. The stealth factor is huge. I definitely got the feeling people just assumed someone couldn't be sleeping in the back in the dead of winter but there I was haha. I had the windows on the shell limo 5% tinted too so can't see in even if the lights are on. I appreciate your opinion brother. I should lift the truck first anyways.

Nice. How tall are you? I haven’t even tried laying in my short bed yet. Maybe diagonal would work? I’m 6’3 so I’m doubtful I can fit, even uncomfortably. Currently the justification for the shell is that it keeps gear dry, secured, and serves as the dogs palace.

The Lord blessed me with 5 feet 4 inches and I can sleep diagonally only but it is tight. You would need a 6ft bed for sure to sleep or one of those pop-up shells I mentioned with the cabover extension that makes the bed a normal queen length. Does your shell leak at all? I bought my truck used with the shell, so I didn't get to manage the installation. I've installed plastic seals all over and put silicone in holes but it still leaks a little from where the shell meets the bedsides. I'm thinking I need to take it to the dealer and have them reinstall it correctly. I agree, having the extra storage in the back is great, and putting the pups in the back instead of the cab keeps things cleaner. How are you liking the KO2's?

Yeah, with all this SoCal rain (and snow!), I've noticed some leaks. I had it installed by Paul in Torrance at South Bay Shells. I went into it knowing it would never be perfectly sealed. With this weather, I've seen slight water intrusions at the front of the bed in the corners nearest the cab. Since you camp, that is probably especially important to limit. I love the KO2s! No road noise! Just the 20% hit to fuel economy sucks... Have you added any additional braces to the shell to keep it in place? Also, are you running bed stiffeners? On day two after install, I noticed the shell had shifted and needed to be adjusted. Maybe more braces would help?

I found some big gaps in the front of the bed nearest the cab you mentioned and filled those with silicone. I guess that's just the design of the Tacoma's bed that has gaps in the front there. Yeah sleeping in zero-degree weather and getting wet is a recipe for disaster. I have been just shoving towels in spots to soak up any water that gets in. I chose the Falken's over the KO2's because of the snow performance but ill possibly give the KO2's a shot in the future. I do have allpro bed stiffeners and I have checked the tightness of the bolts that snugtop uses to secure the shell down. They do loosen over time and when offroading frequently the vibrations will cause them to loosen more quickly.

I found this extra rail that goes in the front of the bed near the cab.

I'm not sure when Toyota stopped including it from the factory. It just screwed right in with the existing bolts in the bed. I haven't found a way to attach it to my shell yet, I would probably have to drill into the fiberglass if I wanted to mimic how snugtop does it so I'm a little apprehensive. You might find some use with it if you have a clamp system to secure your shell to the bed rails. That might prevent it from shifting backward or forwards.

Those tires look dope. Very aggressive sidewall. Sick truck brother! Love the Quicksand!
How do you like the Maxxis tires? Any experience in the snow? From the pictures looks like they have decent siping.

I maybe noticed a 1-2mpg loss after swapping from the OEM Goodyears to my Coopers (265/75/16LT).

NC-NY on the OEMs netted an average of 21.2

    NY-IN averaged 19.9

I’m going to see what tomorrow brings and see if it helps. My second tank ended up putting me behind and with traffic, there were times I was heavier on the skinny pedal than I wanted lol.

Just got them a few days ago. So far so good. Almost as quiet as the original tires.
No experience in the snow. I live in Israel after all ...

Too soon to tell since my bed is still loaded with the old wheels.
Will report later, but i'm not expecting major impact on mpg since it is just a small increase in size (from 30.6" to 31.6").

Same here brother, I'm 6'3 and don't plan on camping in the bed of my truck. Now way I can fit comfortably with gear. Shell is to keep things dry/secure and a place to haul the dog when needed.

I don't think you're off base here with your thoughts. Some of them w/o a proportional lift and/or fender trim to match they start looking like a elephant crammed into a shoebox.
