Gear Hunting Defined???

You gotta know you’re gonna catch shit when you compare a Tacoma to a Camry on a Tacoma site. It’s a truck, probably the last truly capable midsized truck. They all drive as well as the person driving them. Too many people buy these coming from other cars and having very unrealistic expectations of them. The transmission can’t be a surprise to anyone unless they were the first that bought a 2016. Most of these threads coulda been solved with a test drive longer than 5 minutes and some research. Good luck to you suffering in your truck… ant least the resale is better than a Camry so you can always sell it or part it out.

 

Haha! In the OP I originally compared the taco to a 4Runner. Also, the OP was about throttle response and gear hunting. Someone else made the Camry comparison.

Saw this and just did a Copenhagen run. 3rd at 35 mph for me was 1990 rpm. I have a 22 SR5. Is there that much difference in the gearing in these trucks?

Should be no difference in gear ratio between automatic trans V6 3rd gens. Very odd. Mine will stay around that RPM for as long as I let it as well, until I speed up to about 36-37mph, and I get a seemingly abrupt shift to 4th. Been like this since new. Three different tunes had zero effect on this behaviour. Stock tire size.

 

Stock tire size here too. Never had one issue with my transmission since I bought it in October. I did have learned values cleared to clear out an idle issue No gear hunting no frequent shifting etc. The dice rolled good for me on that so what rolled craps? Only time will tell.
