Someone was working in a midwest city, 24th floor of an office building as a contractor. The firm had leased the very large office with windows offices and central bull-pen. It had those automated "turn on what AC/heat needed based on people detected" systems. Because of the actual number of contractors almost everyone had a window-office.

Mid-west heat of the day, automated systems did not activate AC because no one was in the bull-pen ... window offices were ovens. He compensated by putting up reflective foil.

This was in the state capitol. One day a state senator was being driven into town when a flash was noted by the security escort ... on the 24th floor of a building.

Within 20 minutes state troopers, sheriff deputies, capitol police, city police, federal marshals all crashed into his office.

He was forced to abandon his impromptu insulation system.

So ,some foil scared them. What caused them to be so paranoid?

Here in Sacramento, there is a building near a busy freeway that has foil in the windows. Hate it. During the summer time, it reflects perfectly into the car and blinds you as you drive by

From what I was told ... it did have AC/heat. But many environmental controls (and I have experienced one myself) "count the bodies" in the space. Zero bodies and it default to "basic maintenance" level. The number of people on the contract was just a couple more than the number of "window offices" so anyone who wanted one essentially had a window office. Effectively zero (0) people positioned under the "counters" to activate heat or AC.

Something this huge BARELY produces any type of flash from the glass, and it’s MUCH much bigger than just about any rifle scope, which I would assume would have a kill flash on it already.

And a sniper only hangs out in plain sight in movies.

Assuming it happened (no need to disbelieve him, as I recall) ... security details are paid to be paranoid. When working at one company the CEO had his "humorless" security in the building. They were not bullies (not even suggesting to search the employees walking past), but it was apparent they were not there to have pleasant chats either.

It did not seem wise to start conversations involving guns while walking past just for grins and giggles.

Speaking of buildings and reflecting heat, several years ago my company was moving our London office into a building known as the Walkie Talkie that was built in the shape of a -- you guessed it -- walkie talkie. The building reflects light in such a way that melted pieces of some poor sap's Jaguar and caused the city of London to close three parking spots to prevent damage. I forget what the final solution was but I believe a coating had to be applied to the windows facing the river.

    Story here.

Canon 200mm F2.... sweet glass. I hear those lenses are so fast and produces a creamy bokeh. The Nikon equivalent was on my bucket list. If they are shooting at outdoor events they most likely were using lens hoods which would stop stray light from coming into the lens which produces lens flare. You wouldn't see light reflecting from the lens because of this.

Glad to be reading your thought provoking response.
