I had another thread here to show that you can install a second alternator on a 2012 Tacoma with the 4.0L V6. Well For a few reasons I wanted to see if I could fit 2 more alternators. So now I have a total of 4.
I have 1 DC power 270 located in the original spot charging at 14.3 volts. The DC power 270 is only charging the yellow top Optima battery under the hood running the truck. The second DC power 370 is located under the power steering pump Its location can be seen in this thread. I had one of the Autotech alternators in that spot at the time of the pictures.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dual-alternators-for-4-0l.728102/

I just completed the mounting of the other 2 Autotech engineering alternators onto the engine. I am waiting on the 80' of 4/0 wiring to show up to complete the wiring.
All three of the extra alternators will be charging 270AH of Panasonic G3 lithium at 14.9 volts. I am using the power for 30K watts of stereo gear and 3k watt inverter for 120VAC power. I plan to get a larger 5-8K inverter to power my house in case of emergency or power outage.

The 2 Autotech alternators on top are over driven from a second larger diameter pulley on the power steering pump. The over drive is 300 rpm faster than the crank rpm.
So when the truck idles at 650 RPM the alternators will see 900 crank driven rpm. The alternator shaft RPM at idle is 2850 so both alternators will be able to crank out more the 250 amps each at idle. The DC power 370 under the power steering pump does 205 amps at idle because it is running at a slower rpm. All together excluding the DC power 270 alternator because it only powers the truck I should have 700 amps of current available at idle for the new inverter or stereo system.

For those of you wondering how I did the Mass air meter. I bought a Tacoma complete air box from the junk yard for $40 and cut it out of the air box. It took some time but worked perfect. I added a Ford mass air meter adapter to the end of it to fit a 3.5" K&N air filter. The adapter, filter, and silicone 3" 90's were available on Amazon. the adapter was $17, the K&N was $56, and the 90's were $19ea.

If anybody knows how to attach a small .MOV video let me know. I have a small vid of everything running.

I will update this thread after the wiring is completed with more pictures. I will include some amperage test data after the wiring is installed. I still have some clean up and paint to do so this is not done yet.

Wow! Figuring all of that out and then making it work is pretty impressive. Looks well done from the pictures. More amps than I'd ever need, but appreciate the time that went into making this work for your setup.

So, is 4 alternators vs supercharger liek, an even wash as far as power & driveability or what? Hopefully its still got some pep in its step…

The truck has always been pretty quick. The ride is fine as long as I have air in the bags

Gas mileage went out the window with 1000+lbs of gear in the back. It gets 14 city 16-17hwy.

That's not bad, considering. I have about +450 lbs of stuff on my 4.0L 1GR-FE 6MT NA basically stock truck w/ stock 16" wheels. I get about 14 city / 16 hwy.

Sweet! Were you able to design it as to source an off the shelf size belt if you needed a new one? More electrons are always better, looks like you'll be nothing short of a small power plant there under the engine.

I did design both the 2nd alternator add on and the 3-4 add on with belts available and in stock at any auto parts store. Both belts were less than $30 each at the local O'Reilly Auto Parts.
I did not want to deal with trying to have custom belts made. So far all is well after 500 miles on alternators 3,4. Alternator 2 has over 30k miles on it without issue.

I remember your other thread. I still wonder if youll have belt slippage issues or not under full draw. Thats a lot of power

That’s quite the accomplishment, and it turned out a clean install, well done!

    A couple suggestions, respectfully.

Every so often, inspect the cables for wear from engine vibration. Maybe at every oil change so you have a regular interval.

Consider switching to a dual 6v in series setup. I’ve been installing the Trojan t105s in electric pallet jacks with good performance results. They have other options, bigger, agm. In lithium I only see 24v and higher. They haven’t been leaking acid like some of the other brands.

Some people come up with some pretty crazy off grid solar battery bank setups.

All cables have been wrapped with 1/4" high temp silicone any where that they could touch anything that could rub thru the jacket. You can see some in the picture behind the electric air injection pump. I am running 270 AH CJ lithium. Lead Acid and AGM are not even in the same solar system. There is a 3rd battery hidden behind the glass of the camper shell. Everything is checked after every competition. Bass tears everything up.

Very nice. Looks like you used the good heat shrink with the glue inside. No twisted crooked cables, nice. What crimping tool you using? What brand inverter did you go with?
