Well that auction is helped by the fact that the subject is gorgeous to begin with. Several shots in that listing are "hang on the wall" worthy. I am curious what will be the result, a lot of the higher end cars go RNM unfortunately.

Tire decisions - Both tires are E 10 rated.

Current tire Cooper MTP 285/75/R16 --

Likes - Sticky on wet and ice, great in snow good ride, great mud tire, only need to air down to 25 lbs for most all trails, lightweight 56lbs, good handling on curvy roads, quick braking. I only need to buy 3 since I have an unused spare from a previous road hazard warranty replacement.

Dislikes - Loud like a Mud Tire -- short life. I'll be lucky to make it to 30,000 miles. Currently have 25,000 and becoming concerned with wear.

Possible Replacement

Falcon Wildpeaks AT3 185/75/R16

Likes based on other owners - Quiet compared to other AT tires, long lasting,

Dislikes -- Heavier than I like at 61 lbs each. I wheel with guys running Wildpeaks who can make it through the same mud holes, though I seem to have a slight advantage when the going gets touch and make it with ease.

Have you considered Cooper STT Maxx? Yokohama Geolander MTs also might be a good choice.

My buddy just put some of those Falkens on his Duramax, they're okay so far but the size he got wasn't offered with three peak rating, so maybe make sure the ones you're looking at aren't excluded from that.

 

Ok I know it's a pretty clean 80 series, but 30 grand for a 300k mile used Toyota is just simply absurd any day of the week.

Is that where the fuel tank springs a leak? There's some cases of that documented IIRC.

 

I've never seen an 80 series tank leak, seen some 100 series tanks leak cause the retainer ring cracks from age, but it's a 10 dollar part and a 40min fix. This light comes on if the aux tank computer sees an issue with the level or the transfer pump circuit.

 

This was the thread I was thinking of. Apparently the most likely cause is a clogged charcoal canister.

I'm running those Falkans in that size on one of my sets of wheels. Definitely a nice highway tire. Quitet and good traction in all conditions. Seem to be wearing well too. Off road they are ok on most conditions though not quite as good as MTs i've run in the past.
