Agreed. There's a reason the engine, transmission, frame and other parts have rubber (or urethane) mounts. Same goes for the exhaust system. They are all isolated from the body on purpose. Hope that we or at least a member has some feedback about it from @CaliRaisedLed.

 

Don’t understand why so many of you are making modifications to a poorly executed product…….
RETURN IT for full refund and buy another cat cover…….

I went with the other CAT…….the difference was $110…….my time also has a value…..
bUT really, my comment was about “quality”………great fit, performance, no rattling, no modifications on the fly.

BTW, all you guys fixing what CaliRaised didn’t, makes CaliRaised think they have a great product……..hundreds of returns would get their attention, and help everybody…….

I could just take your lead and clap back that "I can't believe you are wasting over a hundred dollars on a product that you can get for much less, and with another dollar in washers and grommets and 20 minutes it'd be just as good! You should return your overpriced ripoff and be more self sufficient and frugal." But I don't... because it's the internet and nothing on the internet is real. Not the friends, the enemies, the victories or the losses.

Calm down. It's a joke. I'm not actually against anything you are saying. Just playing devil's advocate to show how ineffective the aggressive approach is when trying to share or teach anything.

I also don't take that tack because I totally agree that the issues are an aggravation. I haven't installed mine yet and I hope they go on smoothly, as would anyone, but if there are some minor tweaks needed I will tackle them. It's certainly inconvenient, and if I have issues I will contact CRLED about it, but I'm not going to spike my blood pressure over it.

 

I’m unsure why some of you are hearing rattling after install. I installed mine and I have no issues at all. Been driving around for a while now, and no issues as of yet. Fingers crossed though

Maybe they aren’t getting the rear all the way down and it’s touching. Mine isn’t close to touching the cat.

 

I'm trying to envision if this could happen. The rear goes over the crossbar and hooks onto the 2 bolts passing through. How much lower could it go?

My gut tells me the problem is in the manufacturing process and that QC is allowing for loose specs. There are certainly a number of folks who haven't had any issues and a growing number of people that do. Or did those of us having issues get misshapen Tacomas?

 

There can't be that many mis-shaped Tacomas and there also can't be that many shields that are failing QC. Maybe the shield design didn't account for more deviations in tolerances? I'm wondering if a few extra washers/gaskets could eliminate the rattle. But honestly, this should have been worked out before the selling the shield.

 

For @spamy, @FamousTaco and others that have installed them per the directions (without any washers, etc.) and aren't noticing any rattles/noises, do you recall if either shield was/is actually touching the cat? Just curious.

Mine is not touching the cat, but I did have to jack up my truck to put the driver side on even though I have a 3 inch lift with 33’ inch tires just to slide it into the cross member.. I see others did not have to jack up their trucks, so I’m unsure why I couldn’t just slide mine in as easy.

 

It was close, but not touching. Maybe between 1/8 and 1/4 inch. I did seat it nice and tight down to the cross member. There could be some play in there and closer to the cat if it wasnt seated down well. I Fit the bolts in the front loosely. Then tightened the two bolts holding the cross member. Then lastly tightened down the front side 2 bolts. The bolt holes seem to leave enough room to move it around a bit to get the placement you want.

I was more worried about the edge of the metal being near those hoses on the passenger side. Some vibration on there could cut them and be way more than an annoying vibration.

Im not sure if that is according to the instructions or not. I didnt bother to watch the video for this, its pretty straightforward.

 

Thanks guys... all good info. My order's supposed to be here this week. Hopefully I'll have time to tackle it. Planning on putting it on my QuikJack and installing the remote tailgate kit at the same time. I'll take pics and post the results.

I ordered Feb 9th I hope mine come soon. I will try to take some pictures of my install. If it rattles it can join the click in my front brakes. I am keeping my truck until it dies. I do not think that these thefts are going away any time soon.

 

I feel the same. I ordered my hidden light bar from Diode Dynamics for that exact reason. Customer service from DD is top notch, they always answer the phone and go far and above to answer any questions and remedy any concern. Got my fogs from them too and decided that the amber would be a better fit after installing them and they sent me out the ambers and let me send back the white fogs and even covered shipping. They are seriously top notch... products and service.

 

Which company makes a catalytic converter shield for a double cab manual transmission which one is good

 

Received and installed the Caliraisedled cat shields today. I ordered them on January 31st and received them on March 15th. They seem like they're pretty good quality, will last as long as I'll own the truck and most importantly should cause most bad guys to just move on to an easier target.

Short story is that the driver's side was a bit of a PIA to get everything lined up, especially where it connects to the tranny bolts, and it *does* touch the cat. I banged on it in various places and didn't hear any noise to speak of. It was late when I finished (installed the remote tailgate lock afterwards) so I only had a chance to test drive it about a mile around the neighborhood which includes some bumps in the road and such. The good news is that I heard no noise, no rattles, etc.

I followed the installation directions in the video in the first post which are pretty good. Although I suppose if you have a full lift and have installed them a dozen or more times, it might only take 15 or 20 minutes like they said but it took me a little over an hour. There's plenty of undercarriage clearance so I decided not to use my QuickJack and just left it on the ground and used my Magic Creeper to get at everything. It would have been a little easier in the air, but it worked out okay.

The passenger side only took about 10 minutes to install and it does not touch the cat. More room plus the experience of already putting the driver's side shield on helped. I banged on the passenger side as well to see if there was any movement and when I hit it a certain way I found that it could also be a rattle source but it took a pretty good thump so it probably won't be an issue, at least for me.

So I do not like the fact that a small part of the driver's side shield touches the catalytic converter. Cats should be able to dissipate as much heat as quickly possible to avoid shortening their life and I don't think the shield will help. They also need to be able to move independently of the undercarriage when there's engine torque and exhaust pipe movement. I'm thinking about making some adjustments, shimming with washers like others have but it was too late to tackle it again tonight.

The video shows a bracket next to the cat on the driver's side (at about the 4 min. mark) which they say doesn't have to be moved to get the shield in but that it might be easier if you do. You wouldn't need to move the bracket if the truck's on a lift, but when it's on the ground there isn't enough downward angle space to get the shield in. So I did have to remove the 12mm bolt and bracket from the crossmember but only needed to loosen the other end of the bracket on the frame to allow it to swing out of the way.

I didn't use my torque wrench on anything, just tightened it all up good and snug without overdoing it. I did put Blue Locktite on the security bolts just in case.

When all is said done I'm mostly satisfied with the shields. I really hate rattles and squeaks so I'll have to drive it on different roads and under various conditions to be sure it's going to be quiet. Will also give some more thought about making it clear the cat on the driver's side. I'll report back if I have any news.

Here's a photo showing where it contacts the catalytic converter on the driver's side. It's right where their logo is cut into the metal. Also a photo of the bracket that I had to move to get the driver's side shield to slip over the cross member.

Seems like the shield touching the cat is still an issue. As most have added spacers to help alleviate this, I wonder if @CaliRaisedLed will be offering a spacer kit free of charge to those affected and will be adding it to their shield kits in the future. Seems like a plausible solution to the problem and it may help them regain some trust lost from previous buyers.

Looks like my shields will be in today. Hoping to have time to install them this weekend. I'll report if there is any rattles/cat touching.

EDIT - I'd also be very interested which Trims the cat touches.
